A/c 36fl

We have a 2012 36FL and here is my dilemma... we are currently in central AL where it is 80 degrees at 8am and 85% humidity. The A/C runs all the time! either the front or the back depending on temp setting. I currently have the front thermostat set to 80 degrees and the rear at 75 with a fan on the pantry ledge pointing into the front living area that blows on the old black dog who spends all of his time on the couch. With the back A/C set at 75, it is supposed to turn on at 78 and off at 74... but it it won't get any colder than 75 so it runs and runs and runs. So, I move the thermostat to 76 thinking it will cycle because it was previously staying at 75... nope. it never gets any colder that 76...and the same on 77 degrees... what's up? The only way it will cycle as it should is if I set the back A/C at 79 or 80 but that is too warm to keep the front A/C from running all day long! Plus, I would THINK that an A/C that runs all day long would freeze us out but it doesn't. Thoughts? we bought the coach 18 months ago.

I don't think the thermostat readouts are very accurate. I keep mine at about 80 to prevent it from running continuously trying to push us down to 70.

We alternate our a/c units on hot days. We run them about 6hrs each. Our temp is set to 74.

Atom Ant, Our thermostat is fairly accurate as I have a digital thermometer close by that confirms only a degree or two difference.

John, so set at 74 it runs for 6 hrs straight? and doesn't get cold enough to shut it off? I would think that a unit running for 6 or more hrs would be hard on it... am I wrong and should just consider it a fact of life?

We too are Colorado kids, Atom Ant, so this humidity is killing us!

These AC's are designed to run almost continually during the day, with getting their rest at night, or so my dealer has said. In KY, during the summer months, both of mine run almost continuously during the day time hours. I leave my main AC at 73, my BR AC at 68. It stays about 75 in the RV during 85-90 degree weather.

We were in cape may NJ for the last month. What ever the temperature, it was set at 74 and it had not trouble keeping that cycling when it went to 74. The last 2 days there it was 100 degrees. With the rear AC only it wouldn't get below 77 degrees. I put on the forward AC together with the back AC both set at 74 and it got there and cycled on and off continually.
We just got back to the Catskills in NY. This morning I thought the AC broke it was 63 in the camper. It wasn't broken it was 55 outside.

Exactly what my dealer said. I full time in mine during the week, for work, and my electric bill runs about 120.00 a month.

we are paying 15.6 cents per KW which is highway robbery since the campground, according to Alabama Power, is only being charged 7.6!

^ Wow! Almost doubling up on the campground customers? Not cool. I get mine straight from the electric company, since I have mine parked in a mobile home park, and went through the EC to hook up my electric.

My a/c units run all the time but they wok well. I also keep my fan switch setting to continuous run to help balance out the unit. Last year I was in Phoenix in July. Needless to say it was damn hot but the trailer stay cool inside.

Make sure your a/c condensing unit is kept on the roof. Once a year you should take the covers off the a/c units and hose everything off.

Thoughts on running the MaxxFan's in hot & humid weather? We're in Missouri right now, daytime temps in the 90's with high humidity, I've tried with and without but don't really see much difference. Regardless, both thermostats set to 76, both units start up around 9:00-9:30 and run continuously till after 9:00 at night before cycling off.

doubling up on elec is only one of the many instances of gouging in our work... Dave, it stays cool enough inside at 79, no problem and I did clean the units before all of this heat and humidity.

I have found that the a/c works better if the max fans are off and the roof vents are closed

My lot rent here in Ashford Al, is $375.00 a month and the electricity is included. Work days I turn the thermostat up to 80 then down to 75 in the evening and 70 in the bedroom at bedtime. Once the sun goes down it cool off quickly. I love the dark colors of my coach, but this also causes it to heat up.

May want to check vents in the vicinity of thermostats, make sure they are not aimed towards thermostats.

Hmmmm - I just taped a digital thermometer up by our living room thermostat and the thermostat reads 80, thermometer 73. I always suspected that one was wacko.

So interesting story with the thermostats and A/C units in our 2015 38FL. I think this only applies to FL models.

Before taking delivery we spent the night in the unit and nearly froze ourselves out because the bedroom A/C would not shut off. No matter what temp we set in the bedroom the A/C continued to run even though it was freezing in the bedroom and hot in the front living area.

Took a little while to figure out but turns out RW wired the front A/C unit to the bedroom thermostat and the bedroom A/C unit to the thermostat in the kitchen. Long story re: heat pump, location of living area blah blah blah, but in the end it was confirmed that our unit was built in January of 2015 and sometime in February or March RW stopped doing that. Our dealer ended up swapping A/C units because of the heat pump and rewiring the thermostats to make it all work the way it should. Ultimately the service manager at the dealer said, yup this was the second coach they had to do that with.

Now that all said, I just finally got back, after a month away, to our coach which has been in Florida and both A/C's have been running all day with it being 95+ outside and the inside has only now (about 9pm) gotten below 80 according to the thermostat.

This is concerning me because no matter if the thermostat is accurate or not, it was very warm inside. I haven't yet had a chance to track down what I should expect and if this will really be livable in a place like Florida in the summer. Perhaps it just won't work in such hot temps or perhaps there are larger A/C units that one can get.

Ken - we have a 2013 36FL, built Nov 2012 and the thermostat in the kitchen operates the rear A/C & Heat Pump and the one in the living room operates the fwd A/C.

Have only been in about low 90's and with both A/C's running most of the coach is nice and cool, except for the LR. It's really tough getting the LR to cool below high 70's.
