8,000 lb Axle Upgrade

So let's say I want to upgrade my axles from 7,000 disc brakes to 8,000 disc brake axles. What would that entail?

I know that they come with H rated tires and wheels.

Besides the axle itself, I would think the springs are larger.

How about where they mount to the frame and Shackles?

Is this something doable here at a local shop or do I need to ship the trailer to the factory for this?

Any spring shop can get you axles to swap to 8000lb
.you can either bolt your same tires and rims to them or go to H rated tire and rims. Frame spring hangers will be the same

The 8K springs are different, the axles, and the spacing between axles (hanger locations). I have one of the first 8K axle Redwoods, and they placed the axles too close together assuming they were the same as the 7K, causing springs to hit the shackles on the equaflex because the 2nd leaf is longer on the 8K than on the 7K. Per Engineering at Redwood, the fix for mine is to go to shorter shackles on the Equaflex, which they have sent me but I haven't installed yet to verify it will work.

Not sure what model 5er you have, but fully loaded and wet, I still only see 12,900 on the axles, which is well within a 7K axle system. Are you sure you need 8K?

I have the standard 7k axles. While I wanted 8k, the $3,000 upgrade price was way out of line for a $100 difference in axle tubes. I have upgraded to 17.5's & disc brakes. At the first sign of an axle problem I will have 8k axles. The disc brakes and 17.5's bolt right on.

Thanks for the feedback. I was mostly curious what a swap out parts list would look like. Sounds like it could be done locally if you really wanted it.
