38GK Carpet curling up problem?

When we viewed the RW 38GK on the lot, they had just recently extended the slides. The carpet by the dining room table was all curled up. The island in the middle of the kitchen collides with the carpet when pulling in the slides, and the carpet would not flatten out, no matter what we tried. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, what have you done to solve the problem? This is virtually the ONLY thing we don't like about the 38GK, which we are currently negotiating to buy.

We have the 31SL and our carpet also curls when it hits the island but it doesn't seem to be a big issue because once the slide is extended the carpet will flatten back out within a couple of days but we also like to put a carpet runner over that area. I have not heard of this being any kind of issue with any of the Redwood owners on this forum.

Its annoying, and when you're only camping a couple of days it's really annoying, but I don't know how to fix it so it hasn't been high on my list of annoyances.

Usually after numerous slide out openings and closings, and the carpet curling up against the island, the jute backing on the carpet softens up some and relaxes. More so with repeated flexing. So it will get better with use.

Thanks, everyone!

Sounds like it's the kind of thing we'll just have to be annoyed by. :-) We do plan to camp for extended periods of time whenever possible, so perhaps it will eventually lay flat. I'm just afraid of tripping on it. It's a pretty poor design, for sure, but so far that's the only thing we don't like about the GK. And we all know you'll never find a 'perfect' anything! :-) Thanks!

If that's the only issue with an RV, you got a great one (or you haven't used it enough )

On our 38gk I was hounded by the DARLING wife about it and since the dealer would do nothing about it... I had to .

I marked where it struck the island and since that portion of the island was only seen if you are staring at it while coming up the stairs, I pulled the trim and trimmed back the island so the carpet would slide UNDER the island...

15 minutes of work and about $20 for the flush trim saw so I could get SWMBO off my aching back

When we bought our RW I noticed the same thing and so I use the boom handle and push the carpet down when the slide is in so it curls down against the Island. Much easier fix than cutting the Island and DW is happy. Now when we put in the slide it goes that direction automatically. It was like a Dog or Kids you have to Train it.

There are currently 24 each 38GK's listed on rvtrader.com. BIG variance in prices.

On our recently purchased '15 38gk, that piece of carpet did the same thing. It got put on the PDI fix list. Have not seen the fixes yet so cannot respond. I like the broom handle cure.

Thanks everybody! At least it sounds like there will be a 'work-around' the problem. Sounds like you've come up with some creative ways to deal with the problem! I'll put my husband to work on it.....he's usually good at fixing things!

Use the DW's hair dryer to heat that section of the carpet on the jute side and it will flatten out. A few times of this and she will find a throw rig for that area. After being married for 30 years to the same woman, I have found when you use her tools for a purpose that they were not intended for, they become pretty creative at fixing a problem that they complain about. Just saying!
