2015 31SL Installing slide-out cover on door side

I have a 2015 31SL and I want to add slide-out covers to the unit. The drivers side should be no problem but the door side when the slide-out is open and you extend the awning there is only 1 1/2" of space between the slide-out top and the awning motor when extending the awning. Not sure if I will have enough space between them to install a cover on the slide-out. Has anyone ever installed a cover and what brand on this slide-out and does it interfere with the awning? Any ideas or suggestions would help, Thanks.
Ray

Good morning, I own a 2015 36RL. I had the same issue with the distances however, using the carefree slide out topper did work. The installer had to make a few adjustments for clearance. Regarding The Awning Motor as you were noticing on your rig. I’m very happy with them although when the winds come up, you do hear the slide topper flopping a little bit. Hope this helps you, Jack Thomas.

slide toppers

I also have a 2015 36rl and added slide toppers a couple of months ago. The toppers are Carefree of Colorado Ascent model. On the door-side topper, the installer moved to topper about 1.5 - 2 inches toward the rear. All work well

Rex, thank you for that update and my installer did the same thing by moving the slide topper slightly away from the motor toward the rear. I received a suggestion in one of my conversations with Colorado on the topic. I’m not sure how far back but it was at least 1 inch further back. . I should have added that to my response to Ray. Thanks …. Jack. 15 36RL

Hi I have a 2014 31sl with a rear OEM awning and topper. Redwood used Colorado toppers and awnings. I'm attaching some photos so you can see how they laid out the rear awning. If your windows are the same it should be just about carefully measuring. Note the photos were taken correctly but for some reason the upload software rotates them. If you need to just down lode them and rotate them as needed. Good luck!

I had a 2016 38RL and toppers were installed on ALL slide outs. No clearance issues, they used Carefree of Colorado ( SK111 maybe ??)

Thanks for the replies and pictures. This may make things a lot easier to install these on my unit. Just one question, do they stick out much on the back end of the door side slide? Any pictures would be great. Thanks.

I have a 2016 36 RL with slide in slide bedroom, were you able to get toppers for that. I would appreciate it if anyone can take pictures of the way the toppers were installed, and what model Carefree sliders were used. I tried many dealers to put toppers on, but they all said there isn't enough room. Thanks for any info, I hate climbing up there to clean off the slides after a rain or wind, when parked under especially pine trees.

When I had my 2016 that had the "slide-in-slide" I had many conversations with the folks at carefree about the slide in slide. They even had me on with one of their engineer's to discuss.

The issue is clearance on that small slide..... they had already taken ALL of the measurements from the manufacturer of the slides before our conversation..... The " topper" will fit, the top brackets will not..
