We have been living in our Redwood 38RB since June of this
year and over all loving it. We chose the Redwood for our retirement for more
reason than I have time to mention. However it is the noises fifth we have ever
been in, true we didn’t live in the other fifth we have had over the years but
we did have extended trips. The first couple of days and nights we would rush
out to see what had broken or who was throwing things at our rig, almost like a
poltergeist!!!!

My husband was wondering if it could be the hydraulics or the
frame of the trailer itself from temp changes??????

Any suggestions???

No offense, but about 25% of this forum has been dedicated to this subject. Use the "Search" function first.

If it is a popping sound - yes it could be the Lippert leveling system, which is an issue on all brand of RVs that use them right now. As stated above, do a search and there are some initial things you can do.

I might add, This Redwood has been the quietest of anything we owned before - between the dual pane windows, quiet water pump, quiet dishwasher, quiet furnace, quiet ACs! It is a pleasure compared to the noisy systems we had before.

Lippert put out a message regarding a fluid additive to the hydraulic system. In the Lippert handbook it states your hydraulic fluid, when all things are raised and all slides are in and the coach is on your tow vehicle, should be 1/4 inch below the fill spout. The instructions from Lippert tell you to remove a quart of fluid and add a quart of one of the following additives: Torco RFF Grade 15; Maxima Fork Oil Grade 15; Caterpillar Hydraulic Oil Additive 1U-9891. We do not have a popping noise in our level up system but we purchased and installed on quart of the Caterpillar oil additive. The cost for one quart of that oil is $33.18.

We used the Caterpillar additive as well. The noise has almost stopped. Only time it happens now is during drastic swings in temperature.

I haven't done anything to mine and it didn't pop at all this year. When I repacked the wheel bearings I had all 4 tires in the air for a couple of days while I did some other work and still no problems.

When I last took our RW in for the annual inspection in July, the dealer put in the Torco fork oil in the tank. We have noticed the popping far less since.

Thanks for all of your help. I’m not that well acquainted
with the form and didn’t know I could search for a topic, will use it next
time, thanks.

I agree with you Atom ant this is one of the quietest rigs
we have ever owned, (the dishwasher total rocks). I’m sure when we services the
leveling system it will solve the problem. This is our first rig with auto
hydraulic leveling, which also rocks by the way.

Thanks again.

Yep I love the leveling system too, but I understand the annoyance of the pop. I heard one that sounded like a rock hitting the windshield and I thought my siding cracked. I jumped and went outside and then realized I was out with all he moose I saw hanging around our back window that evening by the brook, so I scurried back inside.

Did you use the leveling system to lift the wheels off the ground?

I had my 2012 36RL into the Crossroads factory service center at Topeka, Indianaon September 9 for the annual inspection and few warranty items. One of the TSB's service that was performed was the addition of the fork oil to the hydraulic system to correct the popping noise. We have been out in our coach for 3 weeks since the work was done and I can report that the popping noise has stopped.
