On our last SOB 5th Wheel we only got noise from our slide awnings in very high winds.

On our Redwoods 5 slide awnings I installed a month and half ago, I have not heard any noise from the slide awnings during windy days or during rain / thunder storms.
(We just had a pretty heavy rain / thunder storm overnight last night)

Same here. The arms are designed to give in instances of weight (water) or high wind. Not sure what else that could be done to make them more functional in this aspect. Having the awning in a lower position is an absolute must though in my opinion.

We keep ours at the most angled setting. The water comes of easily during the rain, there is no build up, and laws of physics say that there is no way it can when angled that sharply. WIND is a whole other issue. DO NOT leave awnings out when you are away from the rig for any amount of time. A strong gust WILL rip your awning arms out of the coach, especially if the installation screws are not what they are supposed to be. Nuff said!
