Bet yours is not greased like many of ours weren't

We had the same problem...
I ordered some heavy duty axle grease and gun from amazon and lubed up the NINE zerk fittings
(3 on each side and 3 under/in the center from the back)

and it's MUCH smoother !

Agree with John. Mine was same way. Make sure the fittings are greased, do it every 1k miles or so. Unless I've got to climb all over the brakes or accelerate very quickly, I don't have any noises.

DO NOT miss the 3 fittings inside the pin box, they are the most important ones.

Concur with JB2 & Vaughan.

If you don't grease it regularly it slams with every start/stop. I give all 9 grease nipples 2 shots of grease about every 1,500 to 2,000 miles, or when it starts to slam.

hahahahaa - OK, clearly I have never greased mine because I only saw 6 nipples! There are 3 more? I need to go check mine out.

Gman - if you can fix the banging - I think you will really like that pinbox!

PS - In 2 years time mine has banged about once or twice after leaving from an intersection following a heavy stop - never gave it a second thought. I love that pin box! Sometimes I look in the side mirror and watch the truck fender and side of the trailer moving in different directions and I start to pucker a little because it looks like I'm not connected!

Brad - look underneath and you will find 3 more nipples. The one to the front is a bit of a challenge to access

That's why I got the gun I did - it has a long hose on it!

just make sure the tri-glide is pushed to the back IIRC, so that the zerk fittings are pointed the right way!

I actually used lockgrip pliers as 'finger extensions' to push it onto that last one !
it was impossible to get my hand in there enough to push it on...

I have towed our 2012 36RL close to 14000 miles over the past 3 years. The only time I have had the pin box slam forward hard has been due to a couple of sudden emergency stops I have had to make at intersections. I generally try to allow plenty of room start ups and stops. Start up slow and allow plenty of room to stop slowly.

One thing that has been discussed here on the forum is the need to adequately grease the 9 zerks on the pin box. That does seem to help some. Have you done that?

The more grease you put in the more ends up in the bed of the truck.
