With the switch in the up position we don't feel...

With the switch in the up position we don't feel a thing. In the down position, we can imagine we feel a breeze. Slowing it down makes me have to think harder about weather I'm feeling anything....

I would put our ceiling fan in the "useless"...

I would put our ceiling fan in the "useless" category. If you stand directly underneath it you can feel a slight puff of air. It can not be felt from the recliners or the couch.
