You say shower water, I think you mean city water...

You say shower water, I think you mean city water . If so, turn it off and open a faucet to relieve pressure. Turn the pump on and turn a faucet on and off. Turn the pump off and turn the city water...

The pump is a demand pump. It won't necessarily run the whole time the faucet is on. If the demand is less than pump output, it will cycle.
