I don't think I would go as far as generalizing the problem as improper installation being "primary".

Most of the misery I have seen with topper owners have nothing to do with being installed...

I don't live in the south, but I've always excluded slide toppers on every purchase and never missed them.

I have helped others cut them off so they can get home after the wind tears them up...
