Mine hasn't cracked either and it's older than yours - I think its is a weak point and whether it cracks or not is kind of like Russian roulette. In my opinion, the correct fix is the cut...

Its common among all brands. Redwood seems to be one of the few that figured out too late you need a stress cut there. Just picked mine up at the Dealer and noticed almost all of the other brands...

Serious, thanks Dave. That was exactly how Montana did it from the factory. That's what I was wondering about.
