I checked with a host at a Missouri State Park which has a B&W as well. He said that if you open the handle and slip the safety pin in the opened position it is impossible for the jaws to stick...

It opens sone as I pull up with no problem with the arm opened, but it use to open sone as I pulled the arm. do you use a spray to lube the spring and jaws?
