LP tank change

Does the 2015 RW have the LP automatic changeover switch or do you have to manually close the empty tank and then open the full tank and manually turn the changeover switch?

It automatically switches tanks when one runs empty provided both tanks are opened, but it does not switch the changeover valve, that's done manually.

It draws from the tank your lever is pointing to first, then the other. If you want to change out the tank that is empty, flip the lever to your full one and remove the empty and go fill it. No interruption in service.

Sooooo... you point the lever to each tank but what does the down position represent?

Draws from both simultaneously, if I remember correctly. That way will run you out of l.p. with no reserve.

Does the red indicator pop up when the first tank empties or does it pop up when both tanks are empty leaving you without any propane?

The red pops up when the tank you are pointing to is empty.

Thanks. I probably had that feature on my Big Country but didn't know how it worked. Sure better than getting up at 3am to switch tanks.

I have had mine set so it will switch automatically but over the course of a month I forgot about it and ran out on both bottles. I prefer to run off one and then manually switch knowing I have a backup, even if it is a 3 am swap

I just make sure that when I am using it I check the site glass everyday so I know when the bottle I am working out of is empty. When I see the red, then I refill the empty real soon. Much better than 3am in the cold.........just sayin!

"The operation is pretty simple. Connect both tanks to the system. Open the valve on one propane tank and turn the lever toward that tank. Open the valve on the second tank and when the first runs out, it will automatically switch to the second tank and the window will turn red. When you see the red window, turn the manual lever to the second tank and get the first refilled. Hook it back up, open the valve and you are set until the second tank runs out, then repeat the procedure."

Yep! That's exactly what Brads version said if you read it right to left.

Just another slight "wrinkle", I've found that the automatic changeover sometimes occurs and leaves some propane in the tank in cold weather, I get fills ranging from about 6.5 gallons and up to a nominal full of 7.2 on a 30 lb. tank in cold weather.

Something to do with not enough evaporation in cold weather, the lower pressure makes the regulator think the cylinder is empty when it's not. Not a big deal if you are being charged by the gallon, not the tank size!

Ah, never thought of that. I'll bet there is quite a fluctuation in pressure based on temperature.

All Tractor Supply Stores sell propane by the gallon and Uhaul dealers that sell propane sell by the gallon. If you are buying propane by the pound this is outrageous prices. Propane weight is 4.23 pounds/gallon. Most places that charge buy the pound are selling propane for $4.23 a gallon or a dollar a pound. I carry 4 40# tanks 2 in service 2 as backup. When 3 tanks are empty I start hunting for propane that is sold by the gallon. It is worth the drive for propane sold by the gallon. Tractor Supply Store sells propane for $2.49/gallon. Uhaul is about the same price. The savings for 3 tanks to be filled by the gallon vs by the pound would be about $50.00. I hope this helps.

Need to be sure they open the purge valve also, otherwise the bottle is full of vapor & not liquid.
