Wheel Bearings

have any of you bought your wheel bearings off Amazon. I am working on getting our RW ready for use this year and want to change out the bearings while I am at it. Does any one have the link for Timken Bearings that you can share? 38RL 7K axels

Does anyone know the part# of the bearings? I am looking to replace with the better bearings since I am going to have to repack this spring and would rather add the better bearings at that time.

bearings

Curious to know how many miles you have on your redwood. We have a 2015 38gk with 10, 000 miles. Is this something I should be looking into?

For me the trailer was brand new. I picked up the trailer and headed home (250 mile trip) and by the time I got half way home, the truck was doing most of the stopping. Got home, pulled the wheels and drums, and brake shoes were greasy. I looked at seals and bearings. Seals looked cheaply made. Poor support for lip. Bearings were imported. I had a set of Dexter backing plate assemblies. I installed them and went to local bearing house and bought a full set of Timken seals and bearings and installed them. Worked much better. I made a couple of trips then decided to install disc brakes. Bought a set of Kodiac discs, put new Timkens in them, made couple of longer trips, and I now feel very comfortable with improvements. I was shocked at how much better the discs stop. The heavy duty Timken seals handle the pumping of the EZ lube spindles with no leakage and with the disc brake set up the seals are visible to check and make sure. While I had the 31SL on jack stands, I also added MorRyde SRE-4000, heavy duty shackles and wet bolts, and Joyrider shocks.

Rob,

At a little over 16K miles, I upgraded the suspension system with MorRyde SRE-4000 equalizer, bronze bushings/wet bolts and heavy duty shackles kit. I also replaced the Chinese wheel bearings/seals with Timken bearings/seals.

The original wheel bears appeared to still be in good shape but I replaced them just because I wanted the Timkens. Relative to the suspension, why Redwood or Lippert engineers thought that nylon bushings were adequate for a 16,000 lbs trailer is beyond stupid. When I removed the bushings, they were in shreds. After replacing the bushings/wet bolts, they all easily take grease.

I now have over 24K miles on the coach and it pulls/rides much better with the MorRyde components.

Guy

I totally agree with Guy, while doing the bearings add the MorRyde heavy shackles & wet bolts, it's money well spent. As far as the bearings, mine had 40k+ miles on the originals but I packed/inspected annually & I upgraded to disc brakes this past Nov. & it all new now.

Well got the new bearings so will be making some mods this weekend weather permitting. Installing Moryde SRE 4000 with X factor, HD Wet bolts and shackles and new Timken bearings and seals. I will also replace the Lower jaw with the replacement that I received from Lippert. Hopeful this will make some difference. We are Planning a Trip from OR to IL in June - End Of August.

Went to work on the trailer today. But it was going to rain so I did not want to start and be out in the rain all day. I am now confused on our suspension setup. First let me say we bought our RW used. The person before us bought it in October of 2014 and traded it in January of 2015. They thought it was to big and did not like towing it. We picked it up in Jan 2015.
I was checking things out today and I see we have the Trail air Equa flex system and the bolts are wet bolts not never lube as thought was under the trailer. Does not look like the bolts are the HD Moryde set though. I looked through all the owners books and cannot see if this was the standard equipment. Does anyone know if this is how they are assembled from the factory?

Yes they are. You're basically trading your equalizer's LCI brand for the Mor/ryde brand - same functional design.
And plastic bushings for bronze bushings.
Wetbolt difference is that they all actually work! When I changed mine, the streetside rear wetbolt through the spring just fell out in two pieces - cracked through at lube hole.
Shackles are definitely thicker with the Mor/ryde bushing/shackle kit.
It's a worthwhile upgrade, but it's a lot of work if working by yourself.

Here's what the MorRyde shackles look like in the box & after installed(haven't flipped them up yet in this photo). Also notice the plastic bushings in the box, they have approximately 5k miles on them. After installed all bolts take ease with ease.

Did your original bolts have zerk fittings? I thought the never lube bolts did not have the grease fittings. The ones on our trailer have the Grease fittings thinking they were already changed over to wet bolts.

The difference is the bronze vs. plastic bushings.
