The forums are not the only place they argue about which truck is best :)

.... “We leave no doubt with customers that the F-450 pickup truck has best-in-class towing of 31,200 pounds whether tested using our own internal towing standards or SAE J2807,” Ford product development chief Raj Nair said in an official statement. Chrysler also said today that its Ram 3500 heavy duty pickup truck has best-in-class tow ratings with capacity for pulling up to 30,000 lbs with the Ram 3500. Both Ram and Ford claim the trucks in question qualify as class 3 trucks. ....

^One thing that they don't tell you, at least in the Ram's case, is that to get that 30,000 number, you have to get that ugly, 2door, long wheel base, 2 wheel drive version. Those numbers drop drastically, with say what I have, 4wd, crew cab, long bed. My towing numbers are actually around 17,000#.

Well, not quite correct. Your 3500 DRW and 6.7 would be rated at 20,500# with the 3.42 rear axle. It increases to 29,000# with the 4.10 and Aisin transmission. The 17,000# number is for a SRW and the 3.42 axle.

Only one way to settle that! Get a chain and tie the rear ends together and let them battle it out

I tried that with the 2014 Ram 2500 4x4 I just got rid of. Maybe that's what blew the 3.42

No, it is 16,790 for DRW, 4x4 Crew Cab, ST/Tradesman, long box, 3.42, 68rfe. Scroll way down to my listing, and you will see that my max trailer weight is 16,790, and the GCWR is 25,000.

Well I was rounding off to 17000# and not trying to get to the nitty gritty. So I shorted by 220#. I accept my 10 lashes. The original comment was that RAM advertises 30000# and it falls short. Since the proposed RW 36RL only weighs 16500# I do have room to spare. I just indicated where it falls short. 30000# is the max towing with all of the proper conditions including the Aisin transmission and 4.10. With my truck I can only pull 29000#. Must be time to sell my truck.

I'm sorry, I thought you said I was at #20,500. Yea, in my original numbers quote I rounded up to 17,000#, when I said "around 17,000.

My DRW, 4x4 crew cab, long box, 68rfe, 3.42, is rated at max trailer weight of 16,790, with a gcwr of 25,000, and a payload of around 5900#.

The 36 rl has a dry weight of 12,900. The 16,500 number is gvwr, not the actual weight of the trailer.

FTR, your truck is more than enough to haul any redwood made, I think.

Just remember: Dry weight numbers aren't worth the paper they're printed on most of the time. A 36 RL may have a dry weight of 12.9K, but ours was delivered at 14K before we moved a single paper plate into it. So once we load in our portable freezer, cloths, food, and misc supplies we in the 17K to 17.5K range. Thus our reason for upgrading to the 8K Mor/ryde IS and 17.5 H tires.

I agree....I made the mistake of buying a truck first. The truck I bought was a 2011 F350 SRW 4x4. The next 2 weeks were spent finding another truck. I depended on the weights off the brochure which were sprinkled with "fairy dust". My 36RL came to me weighing just shy of 14,000 pounds.
