Reese or PullRite?

Hello All!
As you can all tell I'm new here. This weekend I purchased a new RW38RL then a new 2014 F-350. I know of a very good hitch specialty dealer that does good professional work! He offers Reese and PullRite hitches. Looking at 18k hitches wondering which one you folks would suggest? Reese has an 18K and PullRite a 20K for pretty much the same money. From what I have seen the PullRites do not have side to side tilt only fore and aft, the Reese on the other hand has all four directions. The PullRite looks more substantial and beefy, so is the side to side a big deal!
Thanks in advanced for your educated feedback!

I would not tow without the four way tilt. It's too stressful on the pin box.

Blue Dogs, did you get your truck with the tow prep package? If so Reese makes the hitch that is used in the truck, it's the Reese Elite, two different models, 20K & 25K.

I have the 25K and am very happy with the hitch.

We had a PulRite hitch when we were pulling a toy hauler. It was the biggest hitch they made because we were pulling a lot of weight. In Mena Ark. one morning 45 minutes into our vacation, we were pulling out of a gas station. We had to cross two lanes to go the direction we needed to go. As we started to cross the road, we heard this very loud notice and the people that saw us said they had never seen a one ton Dodge do a wheely across four lanes before, but we literally flew across the road, without our 5er. The PulRite hitch failed. The locking mechanism broke. Fortunately the bakes held on the trailer, or it would have really been bad, because there was a propane truck filling a tank directly behind us. PulRite did replace the hitch, after seeing the pictures we sent to them, but would not take any responsibility other than that. The said a can or something must have gotten lodged in it and caused it to break. Again we were pulling out of a service station. We got rid of it as soon as we could. We now have a hitch we got from Dodge when we bought our truck. Much better hitch, no jerking, popping or anything. If you want to see the pictures of the broken hitch, I can send them to you. There was a man there when it happened that was a RV dealer from somewhere, and he said in his 30 years of selling and servicing RV's he had never seen anything like it. In my opinion (for what it is worth), I would go with the Reese.

That's not how a forum works, why don't you let us Redwood people answer his question. If he want to know the opinion of an Infinity owner, he can go to that forum and ask the question.

As you stated, an rv dealer had not seen that in 30 yrs... so it must have been a one off because I've never heard or seen that and I've been on a LOT of forums

Well, I've only had my pullrite superglide for 3 years on two trucks and two 5er's so I can only speak to that experience...

It's been one of my best investments.

Felt the same way when we bought our's, like you. Had it on two different tow vehicles and 2 5ers. When event happened, in June 2009, manufacture would not stand by nor would they accept any responsibility for failure. All I can say, is that PulRite was extremely eager to acquire the failed hitch immediately, after seeing pictures they requested to be sent to them on the day of the accident. After originally saying it would take 5 to 6 days to replace the failed one, of that size, to a dealer in Russelville, AR., upon receiving pictures, they overnighted 700 lbs plus of hitch. Long story short, after $27000 plus damage to truck and 5er, I've learned my lesson. Wish you all the luck and safe travels.

P.S. you might want to just google PulRite Superglide to see what other problems they have had of this nature.

We have the Reese 20K and love it. Just got back last week from a 2300 mile trip, hit a bridge gap at about 60 (jeez, the sign said DIP, not CANYON).

Off we went a buckin' and a kickin' and everything stayed together just fine

We use a Demco Hijacker Premier Series 21K with four way tilt and have been very pleased with. (made in the USA). The tilt has definitely been useful esp when hitching or unhitching on uneven sites. I would also consider the B&W Companion which has a lot of loyal users on this forum. It has the advantage of no rails in the bed of the truck when it is removed.

I have a Pullrite Super 5th 20.5K hitch. It does articulate in all 4 directions. I have found the hitch to be very good and is also easy to use. I especially like the wrap around pin mechanism. With the custom underbed mounting brackets, you can remove the hitch and have a clean truck bed.

Thanks for all the great feedback! I for sure want one that tilts all directions. It sounds like either hitch are good quality. The PullRite 20.5 with the hidden brackets sounds intriguing to me. I pick up my new Truck tomorrow and will stop by the hitch place, pick out my hitch and make an appointment to get it installed!
Let the adventure begin! Thanks Again!
