Rear Camera Hardwired

Finally got around to installing my hard wire rear camera after returning the wireless that just did not work for me.

it is very possible (for those that wondered before) to fish the wire through the rear clip and down to the frame. If fact it was much easier than expected. I ran a fish tape down through the left rear marker light:

and with some help using my hand through a taillight, it showed up below:

I was then able to pass to the center fishing across to the center marker light:

I installed the camera in the window cavity below the marker lights.

A miserable job, but being on a concrete pad helped a lot. I pulled cable along the frame in the underbelly, dropped down by the tanks, then up into the battery area up into the belly by the pin box and installed the plug at the pin box for the truck.

The kit comes with a coiled cord that attaches between the truck and trailer. I'll have to get the truck wired this weekend, so no testimonials as to how the camera works yet.

This is the Rear View Safety Cam RVS-770613-213 designed for trailers RVS-770613-213 | One Camera Rear View System with Quick Connect/Disconnect Kit | backup camera system | Rear View Safety

The catch is, the cables are pre-fabricated with ends. You can cut and splice or remake the ends, but I chose to preserve them, so I had to pull back from the pin box with one, and from the camera across to the marker with the other, then screw the cable connectors at the left maker light and get that stuffed back in the hole (a bit of a challenge). There is plenty of cable, and I stored the extra in the belly below the rear, so if I need to pull the camera I just need to give it extra cable up from the belly to enable the camera to be pulled out past the coupling.

That one doesn't have the coiled trailer connect cord, and has 3 standard cameras. I'm just not sure where those would go unless you used them for perimeter cameras.

The link I had has the coiled trailer cord, a standard rear camera and two blindspot cameras.

If you could mount them on the side at the front facing back would help backing into tight spots that the rear one misses. Like the plug in pedestal water hookup etc.

Ya the blister type would work well for that, just not sure what you would do with three of the standard style backups. They would look kind of awkward out the side.

I truly considered the three, 1 at the back of the truck cab, 1 back of redwood, 1 back of Jeep, but wife looked at me like I get distracted enough now

Na, my arm was only in the taillight hole. Those new LED type marker lights could be problematic if the hole behind them isn't very big. I forgot about the new ones. See, my time to be helpful on the forum is getting limited I'm the old guy with the old rig! Heck, it's over a year old

LOL! Well in RV years I guess that's definitely on the downhill side. I think I am glad that I am NOT at the factory tour to see all the new cool stuff on the new rigs! Its just "see what you don't have" haha Todd said his next wife isn't even born yet...

Brad

Nice job and really nice photo documentation. I bet there were some special word "moments" during the process. Thanks for sharing.
