Mine is not 450hp but it does a really good job pulling. At one point GM was going to got to CAT to build a small diesel never panned out. I really do agree that the big three have done an incredible job at improving there light truck line. If I was looking right now I would have a hard time picking. Working in EMS we used Fords. Over 30 years of work most of our units would be started, and other than basic maintenance those units were left running for 6-10 years most of the diesels had about 65-70,000 hours on them before replacement. Ford refused to put diesels in the Econoline series nod the gas V10 only lasted about 11-15,000 hours before replacement. A lot of EMS departments are moving to Chevy and seen to be pleased with the Duramax. A lot of the Fire service are going with Dodge because of the 5500 series. Anymore it comes down to what body style do you like?

John and Dave - that same engine in Marine use is tweaked to 600-660hp and runs all day at 90%.

Last boat I brought up from Florida had a pair of 660's with Zeus drives in a 53' Regal. Good running boat and very fuel efficient.

I had the 5.9 V8. That was a special jeep, not many made. Years later I bought the 5.7 Hemi Jeep. I thought there was something wrong with the new Jeep because it wasn't even close to the power of the 5.9.

We had a couple Ford V10 pickups at work for towing tractors with brush hogs on a gooseneck trailer, they did a decent job towing if you could keep gas in them, they would pass everything but a gas station, about 6 mpg with a 25+/- fuel tank.
I don't know why they put that engine in a lot of class A & C motor homes instead of a diesel?

The V10 is cheap cheap to fix cheap to replace. This makes the RV MSRP appear about 10-15,000 dollars cheaper. Unless you are a full timer the average mileage placed on an RV in 10 years is about 30,000 miles

Just too bad they aren't cheap to operate. Kinda like the old Ford 460 & GM 454, stop & fill up with oil & check the gas.

I had Vega like that, carried a gallon jug with marks in quarts, would run it till the Oil lite would flash when cornering, then knew it needed another quart. But all in all it was a fun car to drive.
