What hitch are you folks using? I'll be towing with a DRW CC long bed so I wont need a slider looking for something in the 21,000 to 25,000 pound range. Air or 4 way pivot head. My hitch need's to be able to be removed so I can use the truck bed.

I use a Reese 20k with a slick plate installed on the head (so I don't have to use the the little round ones) the head pivots in 4 directions. I my self prefer the hitch to be a non air ride but I do have air ride on the truck and I ordered my redwood with trailair air ride pin box, I will olso be adding air ride to the trailer.

I went with a PullRite Super 5th, 20.5K hitch with a 5125 Lbs payload rating. The hitch gives me plenty of margin for our Redwood 36RL.



I like the PullRite hitch design because of the way the locking mechanism wraps around the king pin. It completely removes from the bed for normal truck use leaving only four, 1 7/8 inch holes in the bed which can be capped. The hitchis easy to remove and re-mount into the truck bed by myself. When I am not towing the 5th wheel, I mount a Leer cap on the truck bed.

I use a B&W hitch with the companion you can remove it
also or you can use for a goose neck

What type of air ride system are you going to install on your unit? will it make the suspention stiffer.

Lilly I am going to use the Trailair center point system it uses the stock springs but replaces the center pivot point with a horizontal air bag to remove all of the road shock and chucking. It sells for around 1100 dollars and installs easily in a few hours. This combined with the air ride pin box and air ride truck will be like floating on air. I would like to go with a full air ride setup but I feel for the money this is the way to go. There are a couple full air systems out there but they are very expensive and you have a lot of labor to install it.

I like it lot, even thro I have never taken it off but is
easy to do or used it for goose neck. One thing you might want to check on is I
think when you get the top part (Companion) you can get it for use in truck

I would really like only to have to buy 1 hitch in the next 10 years. I really like the Air Safe Omni 25 hitch. Yes they are a little pricey but I'm only hoping to only do this once. Are the air hitches really that much better and are they as reliable. My other choice was the 4 way pivoting hitch that pivots Front to back &amp; left to right. I'm hearing alot of good about the B&amp;W hitch. Am I just reaching to high for a hitch.

The biggest thing to remember about hitches is the maintenance required to them up they all need it I have a cheap bw lill rocker hitch that I have had in may trucks I have kept it maintained and it is just as good as the day I bought it bit I also bought a hitch from a guy that was used for 2 months hauling trailers it was flat wore out because he didn't keep it greased and did not use slick disc. So my point is use can use an inexpensive hitch and it can just as reliable as a 2500 dallor hitch with the right maintenance.

Dave if you are setting your redwood up to have a gvw of 18000# you need a 20 k hitch or more your 18k high will be maxed out if you're fully loaded.

No. they talked me out of it. I stuck with the disk brakes and G rated tires.

Hey KR2011, our first trip will be somewhere south about the end of April but after we get back we'll head over your way so we can meet up and compare trailers. My wife might laugh at us but why not, maybe we'll find others to join us too.

You know this reminds me of a story..My dad and his friend both had Black Labs (dogs), one night after a few drinks they ended up going back to their respective cabins with the wrong dogs. Imagine if we had several of these Black/Maroon beauties in the same park.

I think you'll be fine we only have 1500#'s of pay load capacity in our Montana and we are under that barely but we are under and we are full-timers. I'm not telling the wife about the extra capacity of the redwood. Shhhhh don't anybody else tell her.
