You know the funny thing with the truck manufactors that confuse people is gear ratio. A 373 gear compared to a 410 gear is the number of teeth on it. The manufactors give you higher load ratings and towing weights with the 410. The size of axles, gears, differential housing are the same. All you get is more torque and low end. This has nothing to do with the weight you are carrying. You don't have as much power pulling the hills with 373. So the bottom line is that your new truck is a as capable of hauling the same weight with either gear ratio. A 411 gear does not increase the weight a differential will carry before it buckles. If they increase the load rating 1000.00 with a 411 gear you are still within the same parameters with 373 gearing

I have a RAM 3500 SRW Longbed and I am still overloaded with our 2012 36RL. I try to load our RW very lightly and I am still about 500 lbs over the truck's 2649 payload rating. I tow at 60 mph or slower depending on conditions. I would recommend you stay local until you can upgrade your truck.

My wife hit the edge of the garage with my SRW, and now she won't touch the DRW. It intimidates the heck out of her

Ken,
This was my truck weight I used to calculate pin weight, but that was back when I had my 2008. If I ever get this one out long enough between hailstorms I'll do another complete weight set with this 2014. The handwritten pin weight on this one was another weight without water and food.

Same here Coloradolivin, a dually has been our daily driver for over 11 years, love my truck. D W doesn't mind driving it either, just have to park a little further out.

My DW was a little intimated by our Dually at first, but after driving is a few times she got comfortable with it and drives it all the time.

I have a 2013 Chevy 2500HD and a 2014 36RL. I tow my trailer twice a year from Texas to Colorado and Tennessee and have never had trouble towing. I added air bags last year but that is the only thing I have added. I did weigh my trailer and yes it is over by 400# loaded. We live in ours full time. While driving in high winds, I have never had a problem with the trailer swaying. Also, I had a tire blowout on my Redwood and pulled over without any trouble. Redwood uses crappy tires and I will be replacing them ASAP! I drive my truck every day and cannot justify buying a dually at this time. There will always be the weight police that attack...so just drive safely.

The key is to drive with care, I had someone towing a big fifth wheel pass me doing about 80 mph in heavy traffic last week, all I could do was say a prayer for them. I drive 65 and under when towing our 36FL.

There is nothing wrong with driving 75 if properly equipped. Save the prayers for yourself and let the others be. PS - If you insist on 65, stay to the right with the truckers.

Sorry if I snapped, but I don't like to be openly criticized because I don't share your beliefs - (driving...). It's OK to drive conservatively, but when driving 10 under the speed limit doesn't mean the rest are "reckless" and in need of spiritual help.

Don't go for that reason! EVERYONE'S opinion is welcome here & yours is just as valuable as his!! My trucks sweet spot is about 68 mph & if there's traffic I'm going to drive in the middle & they can go around me. I've also had those idiots hauling a## around me & the prayer I said was that get a long way away from me before they lose it.

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger........ Brad jumped down my throat in response to this same topic a while ago. Apparently this strikes a nerve. I just learned to and not get upset. Life's too short.

Ya it does strike a nerve - guess thats why the interstates have two lanes. Those for the old goat GMC drivers that fear for their life, and other for the rest of us.

Ah maybe a drink is good - haven't had a good weekend so far, lots of people calling me a fool or criticizing the way I am the last two day, people that just feel the need to impose their thoughts when not asked. I'll go cool off if a friendlier fashion.

Hmmmmmmm.....
I guess that I am glad that I drive a Ford , and I drive it in any lane I want !!!!

But honestly and seriously ,

I see Brads point , after my recent round trip drive from PA to FL I have seen my share of almost pile ups because of someone driving 55 or 60 in the left lane of a 70 mph road.. They are clueless as to what is behind them...

I am SURE that is not what you meant by your original statement... Let's all just sit back and be thankful for the fact that we have each other to bounce ideas off..
If you leave this forum over that statement , it will be a big loss for you , as Brad and everyone on this forum has a ton of useful info to share ..!!

Ford Truck Guy.......

Don't recall anyone saying "traveling 55/60 in the left lane" do you? Hey if someone wants to "book up the road" in the hammer lane doing 80/85 towing 17000 lbs, all the power to em.
