Time to eat some crow

Ginny and I have struggled on how to tow a car behind the new "Beauty". We've been towing the VW Passat TDI (which we love) but it had to go on a dolly. We decided to try to purchase something that we can "flat tow" and started our search.

As it turns out we decided on towing a full size crew cab truck and.....well GM aparently has had fewer issues while being flat towed. So after rejecting GM after the bail out, I just brought home a new crew cab gas Silverado Z71. I will say the F150 rode better but the GM had a better reputation for flat towing. So I guess I have to eat some crow now.

I spent more on this truck than I got out of the "Beast" so I told Ginny I should have just kept the F350 and been money ahead. It sure would have looked nice having the "Beast" push that big motor home down the interstate.

It's just a toad - no sense in investing in a good car just to put all that tow mileage on it. Too bad you buckled on our sense of values when it comes to the bailout though.

Brad, guess that's what you were doing recently as they were loading that white dually onto that truck, saving miles?

When you get that nice motorhome parked the last thing you want to do is get into a cheaper vehicle when you go out. Excellent choice

I don't think you will have any problems Dave.
My business trucks have been GM's since 1997 and never any major problems. Used to have 3500's but now have 4500. These are not pick ups but have 14' box on them with the van nose. 6.0 gas. Only problems I have had over the years is that about every 35K they need new front rotors. Just a weight thing that eat them up.

That's good! But if they suddenly start leaking fuel, maybe it should be. Other Ford owners may want to check it out.

I weighed all options in this decision. It came down to the cost of having another car sitting around just to be towed and why drive a piece of junk while on a trip. Also this will be my business car since we're getting rid of the VW Passat.

My sons all gave me a rough time though because this is the first car I've had in a long time that wasn't fully loaded. I explained I ran out of their inheritance.

She knew it was going to happen and told me not to get rid of it since I liked it being loaded and tuned and just NICE.

but the guy I got the mh from had a newer jeep wrangler that had all the hookups, brake system, etc.. ready to go...

And, AA, the miles don't roll up on our jeep when towing ...

None of the newer vehicles will register miles while towing due to electronic speedometers.

Hmm, I'll have to see what my 97 does next week when I tow it.

If it still has the speedometer cable coming from the transmission it will no than likely register, if electronic it shouldn't. On the 4x4 vehicles that you put the transfer case in neutral it may not register either if neither drive shaft turns.
