Don't know if this is okay for the forum, but I thought I would share.

A Guest checked in the other day and asked "How deep is the river??"

After I got up off the floor, I said "Well, depends on where you stand"

I'm sorry. I guess I don't see the humor.
It sounds like a legitimate question. Am I missing something ?

I would ask. Shallow rivers and deep rivers have different type of fish and need different type of fishing. Deep rivers move slower but have more undertows. Something you would want to know if you plan on swimming. I'm OK letting kids swim in a river 2 foot deep but not so much 30 feet deep and the best way to find out is to ask.

Sorry, guess I have a bit of dry humor.

It is sort of a local thing. When the Arkansas river starts her runoff this time of year, even 6" of water can take you off your feet. In most places you can wade across as the fly fishermen do prior to runoff.

Once rafting kicks in, a "swimmer" is someone who gets thrown out of the raft and it can be very dangerous. Therefore, you would not want to swim in the river until say late August when it slows back down again.

I guess the humor is, it doesn't matter how deep it is, you don't want to go in at all.
