Blue Sky Ins.

Got a phone call yesterday informing me that Blue Sky In. Co. has lost their Underwriters and won't be renewing my policies. What does " lost their underwriters mean"? Would this have anything to do with the weather that hit Texas and Florida? Been with them for almost five years and haven't had a claim. Anyone else in the same situation? Am I going to have a hard time finding Insurance? Recommendations?

Sounds like it's a good thing you didn't have a claim, you may have put them out business even sooner!
We've had State Farm on everything for 40 years & the only problem is they just keep going up on premiums, but we've had claims in the past & they paid to our satisfaction on every one.
Our son bounces from insurance to insurance every 6- 12 months & seems to get good deals on premiums, but so far hasn't had a claim so can't speak on how well they pay off.
Several years ago we switched to Allstate, had 1 small claim of about $1000 & instantly we became "high risk" & our premium tripled, cancelled immediately & switched back SF. Take that for what it's worth, but Allstate nor any of it's subsidiaries will ever have my business again. They might "forgive" your accidents, but from my experience they don't "forget" them!

Guessing that you will see quite a lot of this, especially if insured in Florida or Texas. We are now South Dakota residents so should not be overly affected by the hurricanes and floods, but I can imagine the payout for some insurance companies may cause a major shift in their business models. I would expect a lot of upcoming non-renewals or prohibitive rate increases.

I just switch all my insurance companies around this past year since rate were going crazy.

Allstate was the worst on $'s and didn't even consider them on anything.

Progressive actually was the best for the RW and my business trucks. They just started a commercial line in the past few years and rate are good on both.

I have had Progressive in the past on the MH and only had two windshield claims over the years and easy to deal with and paid right away.

Today our mail caught up with us and we received a letter explaining that the underwriting company has decided to not sell RV and supporting vehicle policies. The agency I was dealing with has offered to help me find new coverage, so we will see. By the way we are South Dakota residents too. This is just my opinion but I think everyone needs to get ready to bend over when your ins. comes due! I hope I'm wrong.

California fires, Texas/Florida hurricanes, mother nature has definitely been hard on insurance companies, unfortunately I agree John, we will be the one to suffer or our wallets at least.

Looks like it's going to be Progressive, they are leading the pack as far as premiums are concerned. Same coverage I had, about 1/3 the price.

For us, Progressive had the best rates for vehicles but was higher for full-timer on the Redwood, and our agent said Progressive would not insure the vehicles without the Redwood. We ended up with Safeco on vehicles - about $200/yr higher - and Foremost for the RW - about $450 lower, so saved a couple hundred over Progressive. But have heard very good reviews on Progressive. We have clean records and no claims so don't have anything actual to compare with as far as service.

For those of you that are South Dakota residents you might want to check out American family insurance. This insurance company does not insure coastal states very stable rates not sure how they are to deal with since I moved to TX way back in 2008. They were great to deal with and very reasonable rates to boot.

We've been with Allstate for years. We've not had an accident and we've not had any tickets. This last renewal period our premium went up $360 per year. And that wasn't due to us buying our new RW. We have it insured with someone else.

Anyone tried Safeco? That's what we have now.

Safeco is who we have, just renewed with them. Rates went up and said it was a "Colorado" thing with no other explanation. Still better rates.

We use an independent agent and he has our Redwood insured by Safeco, everything else is with Travelers. Rate from Safeco has stayed the same for 3 years. Next spring renewal, who knows? No claims!

Well then, don't move to KY. When we came here from NJ, we were initially excited about the lower cost of living foolishly thinking that lower KY auto/RV insurance would be a component of that equation. Boy, did we get a surprise as it was equally expensive.

When comparing companies and rates, it may be important to make the distinction between FT and having a S & B home. If you are paying homeowners insurance, your vehicles (especially the RW) should be substantially less. When we had a home, the 5er was a couple hundred. Now that it is our home, it's the equivalent of homeowners at $1,073/yr. Safeco, at least in South Dakota, would not quote full-timer insurance for our Redwood. They got everything else (truck, VW Beetle, vintage trailer and Model T).

After a year and a half, we opted for South Dakota domicile as full timers primarily because of insurance costs. Registration, insurance and taxes we are saving $4,000 over Arkansas, $3,000 over Florida and $2,000 over Texas - and insurance was the deciding factor. If I didn't include insurance, Florida was the most reasonable.
