Sorry we did not stay in Tucson, but we did stay at the Escapees Coop RV Park in Benson AZ. The RV park was clean and was conveniently located near Tombstone and Tucson. Bisbee was also a nice place to visit in that area. Bisbee is South of Tombstone.

We always stop at the Lazy Days KOA for a few days on our way west and when we head back east during the winter. It's relatively close to the interstate and there is shopping nearby, there is also a restaurant on-site.

I have stayed at Voyager RV Resort right off of I-10 on the East side of Tucson. It is on S. Kolb Rd. Nice place and many facilities. Restaurant and small hotel on site. From Voyager, you can drive north on S. Kolb Rd and find everything (restaurants, hardware, grocery, you name it)

I'll second the Escapees Coop in Benson.

I wouldn't call Voyager a resort, it's a city of its own, but a very nice place.

We are headed to Tucson on Tuesday morning for about 18 days, planning on staying at Lazy Days KOA, been staying there since 2002 and have seen it go through the different owners, just don't like the price increases that KOA has implemented.

We are currently in a KOA in Carlsbad NM & although it's a very nice park I think KOAs are pricing themselves out of a lot of business. They are catering to families with children & offer a lot of stuff that we will never use.

I agree, KOA's are not cheap. I try to avoid them. The only plus is consistency, you usually get the same thing in each one. But, talking about New Mexico, if you're passing through the Santa Fe area, we stayed at the Santa Fe Skies campground last summer. It's one of my favorites. A lot of character. No swimming pool and no kids playground. Beautiful mountain scenery.

Danny,
Is the KOA the only game in town there? We just got a contract there and I was debating using the Maryott instead of the Marriott.

X2 on Santa Fe skies - not wonderful, but nicer than anything else around there. He has placed a lot of antique equipment around there.

Brad, there's only one park in town & it has the buddy spots which is fine if you're with friends but too damn close otherwise. The KOA is about 14 miles north of town & is by far the nicest park in the area (sign posted says "rated #1 in NM). They offer bbq dinners, pizza, sandwiches delivered to your door & believe it or not very tasty & fairly priced. If you don't mind the drive into town it's a very nice place.

Na, 14 miles isn't bad at all. Sounds like a nice place to stay.

Out of curiosity, the buddy spaces, do you mean back to back and front to front where everyone parks the opposite way? If so, that does have advantages over not having your neighbors sewer hose run under your picnic table when crammed together and everyone runs the same direction.

Kind of forces you to get to know your neighbor.

Yea! Where every other one is facing you & hookups are between two rigs. Those that we have been to are way too close together since you both have to park at your front door, no patio room. This KOA is definitely the only place to stay in the Carlsbad area!!

The other possibility in Carlsbad is the state park just south of the KOA. Most of the sites are just water and sewer but there are a couple of full service sites that may be available. The campground is up on a hill so sometimes it's windy.

We stop in Carlsbad on our way west, the KOA is where we generally stop

The state park seemed awfully small & roads very narrow to us, plus it's further to town or at least takes longer.

We haven't stayed in the state park with our 36RL but we stayed a number of times with our Titanium 30/35 and had no problems with getting into (backing into!) sites or navigating the campground. The RL is about 4 ft. longer than the Ti. But, the KOA has pull throughs and we are more lazy these days!

We stayed in Brantley Lake State Park just north of Carlsbad for three nights last March. No problems with access or roads and the view was terrific. Some sites have sewer hook ups. They accept rez. Would highly recommend it.

Brantley Lake State Park, a New Mexico park located near Artesia, Carlsbad
