Fire in an RV is probably one of my biggest fears. This year I'm going to install an automatic fire suppression system in mine.

Pure speculation, but looks like propane area could be the source ?

News said the fire started in the engine compartment of the truck.

ya looks like the truck was the source. So sad for that guy.

Don't know about these days, but it used to be the transmission oil bubbling up through the dipstick and hitting the exhaust manifold when the transmissions overheated pulling in the mountains. Makes for a quick burn.

I knew someone in TX that had an engine fire shortly after leaving a camping area in his F450. Rats had chewed on his wires. I had a few minor issues with rodents chewing under the hood of my vehicle in So TX, so I ordered a Rid-a-Rat LED strobe and placed it in my engine compartment. I haven't had a problem in over 2 years.

Thats pretty cool - wonder how long it would run on the battery. We have issues with pests eating the wiring in airport parking out here.

I have had my truck parked for 3 weeks and no issues with the battery. It is getting a good test now as we will have been in Costa Rica for 3 months the end of March. I have our truck stored in Long Beach with the unit running on the battery. It's electrical draw is suppose to be similar to a clock. Will see...

I recently saw a video in you tube that said that most of the fires start in the middle of the RV. Faulty electric blankets are the number one cause of fire breakouts in RV's.So if you have one it is advisable to change it every two years.

I saw an article that stated some car and SUV manufacturers have started using a biodegradable, soy-based, wiring insulation. This is supposably to help with problems in landfills. What a genius move...is there any wonder why rodents are chowing down on wiring harnesses?

Yep Bob, had a friend that a squirrel liked the taste of his soy based wiring insulation on his truck so much that he had a mess to get fixed
