Route to the Keys ?

Hi all
Headed to Big Pine Key in end of December from Savannah.

Looking for suggestions on best route to take. We're planning on two days to get there. Anyone who has done it before have any good suggestions ?

Thanks, Vaughan

Vaughan,

95, into Florida... once in Ft. Pierce, jump onto the turnpike south.. down to Rt 1..

When we went, we stayed at a Newely purchased KOA in Davies FL.. it was VERY SMALL, and we were the only non permanent there... not sure I would stay there again..

Have you checked to see if your campground is open in Big Pine? They were hit very hard by the hurricane. We were down that way a couple of weeks ago and it was a mess in some areas. We are currently on Key Largo,

Hi Dean
Yeah, it's not looking good. Talked to the reservations people yesterday and while they say they hope to be open by End of December it probably won't be. Going to have to rethink where we're headed for the winter. May do a Gulf tour and then wind up in Myrtle Beach for some of February and all of March.

Right now we're in Baltimore seeing kids no family and we'll figure this out in a few weeks.

Vaughan, where do you put the Redwood when visiting the kids? or do you park it and stay in it at their house?

Hi Brad
It's getting dark so I'll take a picture and post it tomorrow. My stepson has a habit of falling into "deals". Lol. He bought a waterfront place on the Chesapeake in July that includes 1.2 acres and a pool and three buildings including a second small house.

We're backed into the driveway, which is about 300' long, back by the pavilion and next to the water and dock. Right now working off a 20@ power and using the bathroom in the pool house. We're pricing adding a 50@ and a sewer hookup so we can stay here whenever we're coming through. Quite a nice setup actually.

Guess Vaughan's camera broke.

Did you tow the toad behind the RW on this move? Opps.... I think it is Fred and not Toad.

Thanks Tom ! And for Steve, I'll try to attach photos below although the iPad and I at times don't play well together.
Did pull Fred. Only way I knew he was back there was look in camera or in a very tight turn could see him. I think mpg went down .1 mpg but won't quote that. Truck didn't care at all and the brake system worked exactly as it was supposed to. Will put picture of rig on when we leave here and head for Georgia at end of month.

If you look at pictures, we are on Seneca Creek. The Chesapeake bay is out about 1/2 mile and then turn to the right It's about 3 miles wide at this point in the northern end. Temps not too bad here yet. 40's 50's during day and 30's at ight but supposed to get colder in next week or two. Definitely want to be out. Of here right after Christmas.

Has anyone stayed at the Larry and Penny Thompson Memorial Park and Campground in Miami on their way to the Keys?

Yes, we stayed there a couple of years ago on our way down and back. Not a bad little County Park, I believe they were all pretty much back-ins but we had plenty of room. Only about a mile off US1.
