We also own a Lil Tex Elite Traeger pellet grill for the home. We also have the PTG to take glamping. Works great. Unlike the larger models which hold about 15 lbs of pellets the PTG only holds 5 lbs. More than enough to do steaks, chicken, chops etc without adding more pellets, but say half a pork loin for 4 to 6 hours smoking will probably run you out of pellets in the hopper. You would just have to keep an eye on how much it uses from the hopper to keep the desired temp going. Not that big of a deal really. Here are the specs for the PTG -
http://www.traegergrills.com/shop/de...A#.VYHIp0a-PY8
They sell a separate stand but we haven't needed one yet. We just use our wooden picnic table where we are camping. Love the smoked flavor.

Ptg

Agree a 6 hour smoke will require a pellet reload. Normally, I will check the hopper at 3 hours on smoke setting. With the digital thermostat control, I have no problem generating 450-500' to sear a steak. But at that temp i dont need to cook very long. No pellet problem. Grill size is an issue. max 1 turkey breast split.

Would you have room for the Jr. With the folding leg kit? Might be a better option Junior Folding Leg Kit - Traeger Online Store ... Also look for traeger grills at Costco they have great deals during one of their traeger event sales!

The problem with the Jr is the weight. Getting it in and out would be troublesome. That's why I decided to stick with the pdg+

Good point, the Jr. Weighs almost 70lbs. I've always admired it when I looked at it but never ask the weight. When I had a toy hauler I used to carry my lil tex along, that was a dream! .... I always had lots of friends I didn't know.

very true with that...ok dumb question do you even mess with the traeger rubs and sauces or go cheaper with the tried and true grocery market supplies

I have mine setting in a Mor/Ryde 24x24 battery slide tray. Use it right off the back of the truck.

I've done it both ways, I make many of my own rubs and that bbq page I linked you to sells some rub recipes that are great. I do really like the traeger chicken rub, haven't been able to make my own that I like better..... I use it on pork chops too. You will never go back once you smoke and grill a pork chop on a traeger! You can buy bulk spices and herbs and make your own way cheaper. I buy a lot at Costco.

WOW it would be cool if your batteryslide/Smoker set up would fit in the rear cargo door of the 38RL.... It looks too tall. Do you know the height?

LOL AA;
Seriously, somebody will do it. LM has an electronic, lighted placard that the factory sends the new owner (customized) and it's WORTHLESS but it's COOL and I WANT ONE!!!

I don't think I would want one mounted anywhere near the basement or awning. One of the first times I used it I backed the truck up under the awning and started cooking. It didn't take long before smoke alarms were going off inside.

Well good thing you got the Redwood then instead of that LM!!

I know exactly what you mean - I got messed up with that second awning and those tall doors (no inside step) on the Redwood. Cooking on a weber where I always do on the picnic table, smoke went up under the lower awning, then up under the main and right in the door.

I have talking photoelectric smoke detectors that are wirelessly connected between the basement and hall, in addition to ion smoke detectors at both places. I sounded like a hotel fire! Shrill electronic voices "beep-beep-beep - EVACUATE - EVACUATE - SMOKE IN HALLWAY - EVACUATE - beep-beep-beep.....".
