Campground membership

Looking at some Campground memberships like Passport America and Coast to Coast, I am not sure if any of these would be worth the money or be something that would work for us. We just started to look into these.
Is there an opinion on the subject. thanks

Have had Passport America for about 18 months and had occasion to use it two, TWO times only...

We are part time campers though, and maybe our standards for parks doesn't mesh with the parks/locations that accept passport America... not sure, but probably won't reup...

We use Passport Ameica all the time when traveling and sometimes at a longer stay park. One very nice park in the wine region of New York accepts passport and we only had to pay full rates for 2 days out of 8. More than paid for it at that one park.

We had PA & only used a couple times also, seems Every time we tried there was some excuse that it didn't apply to those days, weekends, holidays, any day that ended in Y, so we didn't renew. Coast to Coast has too may regulations on when & for how long & you have to return to your home park every so often or that's how it was when my dad used it. Thousand Trails, like the rest is too expensive, has some really crappy parks that we've looked at, for what the membership cost they should be 5 star everyone.

For us the only one we currently have is Good Sam. Some of our friends use PA all the time with good luck, but it never quite worked for us. IMO most the others are way too expensive & takes too long to realize any savings or even get your money's worth, but you need to find what works for you & go for it.

There is another thread:

that has some good information. You might want to give it a peek.

We love using our memberships...

We're GoodSam and PassPort America members. If you're a weekender PassPort isn't really for you as many of the PPA parts only honor during the week. If you do lots of traveling it can pay for it's self in several stays. As with all parks, there are excellent, good, bad, and ugly parks, but since we generally use them when traveling, it's only an overnite. It's really pretty much the same with GS, except you get only 10% off on your stay.

I keep the Passport America for Grand Canyon Railway RV Park, Williams, AZ. I stay there at least once a year for a week. $20 night up to 7 nights. very few restrictions. Have used it a few other times but most parks are to old and small.

We use Thousand Trails Zone Pass. You normally get two zones for about 545 per year. Then you pay about 3 bucks per night after 30 days of use. 14 days in 7 days out of the system. Great if you can plan your zones (5 zones in the US). Parks not the greatest but works fine in between parks if you are a full timer that constantly moves. You get a 10% on all Encore as well. Not perfect but a good membership for traveling. Be careful with Lifetime memberships. Normally you have to pay during your lifetime, not the MemberShip lifetime.

On memberships like Thousands Trails you can look on Craigslist and usually find someone selling their membership much cheaper than if you join at a campground. You would pay the transfer fees but can usually save a lot of money.

When we decided to go with the TT Zone Pass I did some research and compared the different Thousand Trails membership. It is a jungle! I came to the conclusion after have being warned for the so called life time memberships. Some were sold via Craigslist and special membership brookers. They are just that - life time meaning your lifetime and some of them is impossible to get out from until you die yourself. Even if you sell your RV, get ill or whatever you still have to pay every year. The ZonePass is yearly and can be cancelled before every renewal. The negative is that you get one (normally two) for 545 per year with the full membership you get all five zones. But I am sure other have more experience than we do. Just be careful before signing a contract so that you CAN cancel it when you need to.

We have Coast to Coast and Resort Parks International (RPI). I try to work them into our reservations, maybe every other night. One place we use Coast to Coast is in Tucson, AZ at the Voyager Resort. It works out to $10 a night for a weeks stay. We've had them for over 20 years.

We did Passport American and found too many exclusions, required number of days, black out periods, etc. We didn't renew it this year because we never got to use it!
