Just a friendly reminder to all of you getting new trailers with full body paint. Don't use regular auto wax on the new paint for about 3 months and if your traveling where there are bugs, keep them scrubbed off the front. Body shops have to use special wax so the clear coat can still breath after fresh paint. Otherwise the clear coat can become foggy since the paint hadn't cured under it.

The best wax we've found so far is called "Fast Wax" by a company called Preto (this is what body shops use). You can find it on the web for about $36-$40 a gallon. It takes me about 1/2 gallon to wax both my truck and trailer. It goes on real easy and comes off easy too. It can be used in direct sunlight.

Dave,

Thanks for the information. I was getting ready to was my RW and will now wait until after the 1st of the year (about 3 months). I'll also look into the wax you suggested.

After taking a heart pill upon seeing Dave actually performing manual labor, the wax as he mentions is great. go to prestaproducts.com and purchase their fast wax. Works like a charm. Dave, after reviewing your picture again, I am going to sit down and let the heart pill take affect, or I might just have a bourbon (they both have the same effect!!) As for the bug removal, I use a mixture of windex and water and/or windshield wash and water with a towel over my carwash brush, seems to work well and when rinsed, does not leave streaks. Also, Dave, upon closer review of the picture you missed a spot under the "D"

We have used ProtectAll on our motorhome, and now we are using on our Redwood with full paint. Product is cheaper, last longer and much easier to use, no need to wash before cleaning. And no need for buffing wheel to get shine out. We are very happy with it.
Safe travels!

John, that's not a spot I missed...it's a bullet hole from shooting at the bird that just s#%t on my freshly waxed trailer.

I wash my entire trailer with a couple buckets of water. I rarely use a hose unless I'm washing the roof first. When it's real dirty I have a 3600 psi pressure washer I use to blast the dirt off but then I rewash it again with my bucket method.

LOL, damn birds!. We clean home every couple of months, between cleaning we use California Duster, it seams to work perfect for us. ProtectAll makes easier to remove bugs when completing trip. I guess its anything is worth when it works!
Take care.

Dave, let me know when I can run my coach to you for a fresh coat of wax? I'll be sure the fridge is stocked with some cold beverages...

It states on their website that it is a car wax designed for clear coat applications. I have been using it exclusively since we purchased our coach and it works great. I also use McQuires car wash (the one that has"shampoos's and conditions on the label). The fast wax is easy to use. I do not use a buffer of any type. I put the wax on with a sponge applicator and take it off with a micro fiber cloth. I can apply wax to one side of the coach without stopping to remove the wax. It really just wipes off with minimal effort. I highly recommend it.

I have found that dryer sheetshelp withbug removal. Use a little water and some easy scrubbing and they come right off. As a hobby auto painter, I agree that the clear coat needs to be cured out for about three months prior to waxing.

Dave, thanks for sharing. I was planning to do this upon delivery in May. Now that I know, I will wait until August. Also thanks for the product tip.

I think we should all line our RW's up at Dave's campground to get them washed and waxed. Now that I am retired (November 30, 2012), I love to watch (Dave do) good work being done!

We had our dealer put a special coating on ours and it does not require waxing for 5 years, just wash it and it looks like new. Not cheap but I like to relax with a little glass of rum after we set up.

Dave , That's a great picture of you and your rig....But there's something clearly missing ...I see no or any other form of beverage....Maybe your truck tailgate acts as a bar! Maybe a good idea since you are working frrom such great heights

We also had Lazydays in Tucson put a special coating on our RW34SK. They say it is good for five years. I sure hope it is cause it cost over a thousand to put it on. I felt Tucson's hot summers and direct sun could do more damage to the finish which is why I opted for the costing.
