Waste Tank - When Nothing Comes out!

I was going to dump my waste tank but when I pulled the handle nothing came out The cable appears stiff but does push in and out and does not feel broken. I researched the threads and found people with similar problems but never the solution as to what the potential problem could be. I am going to drop the bottom plastic but was wondering if there is any way to manually operate the valve if something is wrong with the cable. We do full time so I need to do something soon I always leave the valve closed until dumping and use the back flush after every dump.

I would first try and back flush from the outlet. That would let you know if the valve is open and if something is clogging the outlet it will free it.

Are you suggesting that I purchase one of the clear back flush adapters that hooks directly to the outlet pipe?

Exactly, That's what I would do. I have one of those adapters in my black tank box so it would have been the first thing I tried.

Make sure you don't run too much water into the tank...especially if it's full. Just run enough to dislodge any solids that may be plugging the outlet.

Well if the valve is actually closed I will not be getting anything back. I would think I would know real quick if it is not clogged. You gave me a bad visual of a geyser going off in the bathroom

I just wanted to add a caution...some folks have over-filled their black tank during a flushing/back flushing procedure. The "stuff" in the black tank will travel up the vent pipe and then flow off the roof. Any neighbors are usually annoyed by such occurance.

If you remove enough of the coroplast to see the valve it will be obvious if it's connected & if not you can open the valve by pulling the stem with pliers. The outer sheath could also have came loose at the valve or behind the lever in the convenience center which will feel as if your operating the valve but just moving the outer sheath.
Running more water in there is probably easier but if you are nearly full it could get ugly quick. One other opinion is the vent it plugged either in the tank or on the roof. You could remove the vent cover & snake a hose down it to unplug. Good luck in finding the problem.

Thanks! My local RW dealer was 99% positive that the valve is the issue. Will pick one up tomorrow as he did not have one in stock. His solution was the same as yours concerning how to operate the valve. Seems like an easy repair as long as it dumps OK!

Don't worry too much about the messiness. Once you drop the plastic you can manually activate the valve. Now might be the time to consider a electric valve if that's something you've considered.

Personally, I prefer the old fashion valve with a solid rod connected to a handle.

Odds are you won't be able to replace the entire valve as they are glued in place, but you can replace the internals, the gate & seals, which fairly simple.

The important word in your post is "nothing". If there is truly nothing coming out (no liquid at all) then you probably have a valve problem, if you are getting a small amount of liquid but no solids then you have a block at the valve that you can cure with a back flush as described above

There held in place with four bolts if you had one that's glued someone did something really wrong

The gate & seals can be changed by removing the 4 bolts, but the valve body is glued in & not enough room to cut out & replace without a LOT of replumbing.
Replacing the gate & seals should solve the problems unless it's the cable.

when I replaced mine the whole valve body came out. there are square pieces glued to each pipe that the body bolts in between with a rubber seal on each side
