Tires.....what to do ?

Well we just rolled out yesterday on the first trip with our new 38rl. So far so good but then there's the tires. On our Cedar Creek trade in we had the Goodyear G614s and they were fantastic. We were running around Utah last summer when temps were approaching 110 degrees outside with no issues. Needless to say I was disappointed that the Redwood came with the Westlake tires. Of course to this point I have no reason to be disappointed with them but.....

What are my options with the current rims on the unit ? I'm thinking just keep what I got baring blowouts early on and maybe up grade the tires next summer when we head out full time. Assuming I can put a better tire on the same rims.

Are the Goodyear G614s sufficient for the 38RL loaded for full timing ? Or should I go further ?

I'm also intrigued by the Mor Ryde IS. The tires would be a priority for me with the suspension second in line but I'd like to hear your thoughts on both.

G614 will replace those Westlake on your current wheel and are more than adequate for 7k axles. If you have 8k axles, the G114 is great too, but you need new 17.5 inch wheels.

Check out the thread started by titan Guy . . . He has ( or had?) a special deal on tires and wheels... NOW would be the time to act IF that is what your looking to do,
The deal was REAL NICE ... almost a no brainer if the funds are available
The thread is labeled as - UPGRADE to 17.5's.. here is the body of the thread -

"Redwood owners only special:
4 - 215/75R17.5 H Sailun with Wheel, center cap & lug nuts $1300
4 - 215/75R17.5 H Goodyear G114 with Wheel, center cap & lug nuts $2000

Freight prox $125.
This is the wheel. Ron Russell 405-626-7009
The USA made Alcoa wheel is also available at prox +$800 set

Your gonna pay $close to $350.00-$400.00 per G614 by it self!

You could also sell your Gs (wheels & tires) for most likely half of either one of those upgrades & still give someone else a very good deal on them. A couple rallies ago the tire/wheel company rep offered an upgrade for those with Es to Gs for $1500 & that was a good deal.

SO TRUE ! especially when still fairly new.. I sold my used G-614's with 6K on them and stock wheels for $1500.00.. deduct that from the $3200.00 for my upgrade and it only cost me $1700.00.. Made the decision to upgrade all that much easier
On edit.. my numbers reflect a set of 5... NOT 4

Got rid of my G Westlakes for $600. 4,000 miles and went to 17.5.

USAF1949 should have his 17.5 G114's tomorrow. I believe he has G G614 coming off. Not sure how old they are.

Lol...I'm having a Trav'ler sat dish installed as we speak so I might have to wait a few months before I think about yanking off the new tires and replacing them. But they are going to be replaced within a year. Hey, I may not get to my destination because my tires have blown but I will be able to watch tv on the side of the road while waiting for roadside service.... ; )

But guess what..the wiring is all fouled up so the installer has been scratching his head some. He's getting it done though....

Satellite/tv cables messed up on a RW, boy that's a new one! LOL!
My last SOB had some off the wall brand (Freestar) of G tires on it from the factory & had no issues, except one flat from a nail, in approximately 50k miles & still in good shape when we traded for the RW.

OK, question since we're on Tires: Has anyone put enough miles on the WestLakes to know if they'll hold up?? I did some research on them when RW switched from G614s to the WestLakes, and after drilling down to find the Parent Company there were quite a few recalls and other problems with the Truck Tires. The reason I ask is that our Traveling Companions traded their 2015 Jayco Pinnacle (after a landing gear ripped loose from the frame and going through all 4 tires) for a 2015 RW 38FL with the WestLakes.

As to the Mor/ryde IS, we added it to our Montana then our 2012 RW 36RL, and had it added to our current 39MB before it went to Paint.

Before going to 17.5's, I ran the Westlake G for prox 4,000 miles (5 months). I developed a very slow leak on 2 tires(7-10 lbs Mo.). They were checked multiple times for wheel/tire leaks with none found. I am convinced that they are using an inferior quality inner liner which allows too much air to bleed thru the casing. This will eventually lead to a ply separation.

The nice thing about the Trav'ler is it can compensate for the lean you get with a blown tire.

In my opinion the West Lake is just another Blow Max waiting to explode Tried to balance them and two could not be balanced. Why did Redwood go with them???$$$ Just bought Good Year

I am hoping the 17.5's get here by Tuesday. My rig is in Florida and when I get back end of March, I'll be swapping out the tires and wheels. Can't wait to get the swap done. I'll be selling the G G614's for $ 1000 plus shipping. They have less than 9K on them. Anyone interested, please PM me. Thanks Titan Guy for the special!

Thumbs up

The Tires and wheels came in from Titan Guy today and I couldn't be happier with the product received and the service provided. In this day and age it is great to see a service delivered as promised! Thank you Titan Guy and I look forward to working with you in the future on the disc brakes!
