The hot water stinks

We were in Pa for 6 weeks at a campground with heavy sulphur water. The water smelled terrible even with a charcoal filter. We've moved to a new campground for the past 4 weeks without sulphur water and still cant get rid of the smell. I drained the system and changed the filter but the hot water still stinks for the first few minutes its on.
Any suggestions?

Probably drain/flush the water heater & check the ananode rod.

We have had this problem multiple times and only solution for us is to mix a cup of bleach in about 5 gallons of water and flush thru the fresh water tank and lines. The smell will go away for about 6 weeks. The only place we get the smell is from the water line to the shower when we first turn it on. We tried changing the water filter and changed the hot water tank anode to no avail.

We haven't even used the fresh water tank yet. Since we got our rig we've only used the city water hook up. Your right in that the only real place the smell comes from is the hot water to the shower and only for a couple of minutes as we first start the shower. The only thing I haven't tried is changing the anode so that's this weekends project.

Ours stinks with the city water hook up also. But the only way to purify the piping is to add bleach to the fresh water tank and pump it into the lines. Let stand a few hours and the stink disappears.

I changed the anode this morning and washed out the hot water heater, the smell is gone. The anode was only 2 months old and almost rotted through. I'm convinced that's where the smell came from. When I washed out the hot water heater silt and chunks of calcium came pouring out. I think I got it.

Chuck there was a thread on here that there are 2 different annode you can buy and one of them take the Sulphur smell out of the water. I had a problem of smell when showering with the max fan on. I replaced the vent under the sink with one from home depot and have not had a problem since

My stink was definitely the hot water not an airborne smell from a vent. There are two different anodes one is magnesium and one is aluminum, the magnesium cost twice what the aluminum one does. The internet blogger consensus is the aluminum anode is the one that rots and holds the sulfur smell.
The dealer winterized my rig and changed the anode. It's a little more than 2 1/2 months old and almost eaten through. I don't know what his was but my guess was aluminum.

There is a little hose attachment that lets you flush out the tank through the hole where you pull out the rod, to get rid of all that sediment. Camco I think.

Like atom after I drain my tanks I use a 3/8" plastic tube and syphon out the residue at the bottom of the tank. (I move it in and out with the curve facing down) You'll be surprised what sits below the waterline. I then use a magnesium anode. But before the water even gets in the coach I have two external wter filters one for sediment nd the other for taste which varies where you are.

Ok back to the stinky water. It now stinks from the hot or cold water if it runs for a few minutes it goes away and is back as soon as you turn it on again. I still haven't used the tank, this is from the city water side. The water you flush the toilet with stinks as well causing the toilet to smell every time you flush. If we flush and it fills the tank with the tainted water the black tank smells terrible every time you flush. The vents and anti siphon valves are all working properly.
On to the fix. A plumber friend of mine was camping with us this weekend. He said plastic lines grow bacteria causing the odor. We put a couple of cups of bleach in a five gallon bucket and ran it through the winterizing hose. Filled all the lines as if we were winterizing and let it sit for 2 hours. Changed the filter and washed out the hot water heater. The smell is gone. I don't know for how long but it was an easy task to do.

We have the same problem and the same cure. After we clean the lines with bleach solution it takes about a month before the stink comes back usually starting in the shower cold water lines. I had thought that the stink might be coming from the washer hot cold water supply lines which are terminated and dead end because we have no washer. I cut the lines at the supply end and terminated them with shark fittings. Did not help.
