Mysterious Vent?

Hello forum,

This vent is on my bottom step in a 2014 38RL. If you look inside there are wires laying there. There is no ducting connected. It goes into the basement at the water heater. Anybody have any idea of its purpose?

It's the return air to the furnace.

But the furnace is 5 feet away and it's not ducted to the furnace? Seems all this does is let cold air into the coach if I'm using the heat pump. If the furnace is running there is No feeling of air being drawn into this vent. Maybe Redwood forgot the ducting?

X2 on the furnace return. That one helps with heating on backside of basement wall where all your water lines are & if you look under bedroom dresser there's another return for garage area, making it a heated basement.

My FB has that vent under the small pantry & agree cool air comes in when running heat pump also, but the heat pump is not the most efficient use of heat when coming from ceiling, but if not paying for electric it's the best choice.

Isn't there a vent in the pass through that provides heat from the furnace? I think that's what the vent near the front passenger side is for. But never confirmed when the furnace was running.

Our Redwood 36RL has the same vent. I do believe it is for the furnace. Our Carriage had the same setup.

Agree with that being the cold air return for the furnace and that it provides warmed room air back into the storage areas and utility area.

Our 36FL has a similar arrangement and we also believe it is a cold air return.
