You can get the heavy duty kit from Mor/ryde or you can get it from Amazon for $99.31.

Has anyone considered replacing the standard bushings with the LCi "Never Fail" bushings? It looks like the replacement set for tandem axles would cost $66.94. They state that they never have to be greased. I'm not sure how difficult the swap out would be.

Did a Google search for the "never fail" bushings and saw quite a few articles on "never fail that failed" Grease has to be better lubrication than nothing. My money is on Wet Bolts.

Todd is under the trailer right now taking a look at our shackles. The bushings are shot, and nearly gone, some melted. We are going in for service tomorrow and they are going to inspect this mess. I can't believe they used this flimsy setup. Of course, I will update.

Is there some reason we should not expect shredded shackle bushings to be a warranty issue? We are in service right now and ours are shredded after less than 3000 miles including tow from factory. Less than 1000 since purchase. Is it safe to tow with our shackles in this condition?

Gotta think they will fix it before you leave ... I assume you are at B. Young?

Shredded shackle bolt bushings

shackle-bushings-bad.jpg
OK: Update.
In the above photo, you can see what looks like grease oozing out from the bolts, but it isn't. It's what is left of our plastic bushings. Thankfully, our bolts are still there, but that won't continue if we don't replace the bushings.

We are back from service. I will post the findings on it in general in a separate thread. Service (Yes, B. Young RV in Oregon City, OR) confirmed that our plastic bushings in our shackles are shot and must be replaced. They are submitting a pre-authorization for warranty and expect it to be covered. They told us that it was safe to take the trailer home so we did.

What they are going to be replaced with is unknown to us at this time. I am not sure what the outcome is of towing this heavy trailer without these bushings (which literally are the link between the road and your springs) That bolt in there is allowed to move around a lot more than it was intended to and I would assume this would cause it to break. (We have seen numerous cases of this on this forum alone) and this would then, necessarily compromise or break your springs causing a much more significant issue.

I will not be happy to be putting those plastic bushings in there. They are WOEFULLY inadequate. We have LESS than 1000 miles of towing ourselves on the trailer plus the tow from Indiana which would be about 2400 miles. I think we may have a case here where we caught the problem of broken leaf springs BEFORE they broke, and it's probably a SMALL window of time between shredded bushings and broken springs.

I encourage EVERYONE to check the bushings, SIMPLE to do. If they look like ours, then take action. It is a simple, inexpensive fix BEFORE the springs break.

I will update when I know more.

I would insist on the Mor Ryde heavy shackle kit, it's less than $100 on Amazon even if I had to pay that & let them furnish the labor under warranty. Couldn't tell clearly from the pic, but mine had bronze bushings on the Equa Flex & plastic in all the spring ends, that kit replaces all with bronze & 1/2 thick shackles & now all the bolts will take grease easily.

We agree and will be working on that for sure. I would think that would be a win/win for Redwood, we are willing to pay parts and it cannot be a big labor difference. I'll let you know what happens.

Did they pull a drum and check your brakes for grease?

Yes, and this was the reason we chose to go ahead an repack the bearings because it was only a small increase in cost. Everything was fine. I also shared this on the "200 milebreak check" thread because I wanted to share that not ALL drums are leaking, which needs tobesaid. ;-)

OK. I purchased the MOR/RYDE heavy duty shackle kit offered on this forum and plan to get rid of the plastic bushings later this month. Can't imagine what the originals look like since we have over 20k miles on them!

It does make you wonder why the bushings are there if they are almost immediately destroyed... I will feel better with the new shackles. YIKES. I am not worried about RWs response. I fully expect they will take care of this, and when they do, I will let everybody know. We need to hear the good news too. :-)

BTW! That's the ones off of the door side/lighter side, the ones on the street/heavy side were much worse but no pics of those.

Yes, Shane, we thought so too. We definitely see there is a pattern of problem in the production lines... I am sure RW sees it too and hopefully is fixing it. We are not one of those who have had a lot of big issues with our coach, but that does not mean that others did not. I believe them. It's important to us that good news as well as bad is shared so we are presenting as close to reality as possible. Our coach has been a pleasure and only minor issues. That does NOT mean that I won't check on issues that appear to be emerging, and that's what we did here and sure enough, we have the same problem with the bushings (and likely even worse if not fixed).
