Hydraulic system leak

Gentlemen and Ladies. I noticed the other day when I set my 38 GK up that my rear jack has a fluid leak. entire jack it covered with thin layer of fluid. Is this normal to have small leaks. I must admit this is my first RV with a Hydraulic system. And I must also confess I am fearful of this system leaving me stranded somewhere and I not know how to retract it manually. Seeing this leak, even though it is very small bothers me. I hate leaks of any kind. Engine, water whatever.

No it is not normal but does happen. Get a wrench and check the fittings for tightness where they go into the cylinder. Wipe all the oil off so it is clean. Then cyle your jacks up and down then check and see if you can tell where the oil is seeping out from. Unless it is leaking from the seal where the piston goes in and out it is usually a loose connection

Spray jacks with a silicone spray regularly when retracting or when extended for more than a week. Also you can grip the bottom foot & give it about a quarter turn, wipe them down & see if it helps, it has for mine in the past.

hydraulic system

Thanks Guys for the response. I love the hydraulic jack system but i am out of my comfort zone with them. So I have a lot of distrust in them. Hear a lot of stories that concern me. I can just see me in a bind trying to leave and can't get em up.

You can go to the Lci website and download information on all your hydraulic systems, schwintek slide system, and your other hydraulic slide systems. Their info will tell you how to bypass system manually. I downloaded all the info I could find and created 3-ring binders for all systems so that I can keep it in the Redwood at all times.

Been in ours for 3 1/2 years & moving usually monthly so by now have several hundred deployments of the hydraulics & only one issue, the mid jack on the street side started leaking so I turned the ram a quarter turn & hasn't leaked since.

When you say "turned the ram a quarter turn", what do you mean by that. I'm having an issue with the same hydraulic on my 2015 38RL.

I had a 2016 38RL that had a tram leak pop up once…

I took CRC Green Can lubricant and sprayed the O rinng wiper seal at the top of the ram, I then wiped the ram real good, re sprayed and worked the ram up and down..
Sometimes some crud or debris gets stuck between the ram and seal… Worth a try

The bottom seal is in the triangular pieces on the end of the housing held by 3 bolts. I removed the bolts, wiping the ram below I slide that piece down, liberally sprayed the seal & the ram above.with silicone spray lube, turned that piece 1 bolt one way or the other & put it back together.
