Grey Tank Cable

Finally happened, Grey tank cable is stuck. Came out to empty but will not push in to close but luckily I had added an additional valve at the cap. On the road right now so might just take the door off so it doesn't flap in the wind but what is the fix? New cable or somehow lube it up or is at actually the gate valve in the tank?

I had the same thing happen to ours about 6 months ago and decided to change the valve out about 3 weeks ago. After removing the underbelly and having sinking water dipping on me while removing the valve was enough to say some choice words. Then to find out there was nothing wrong with the valve was beyond belief. One of the nice workers at the factory had threw a chunk of plywood inside the tank. The plywood had made its way down to the valve and was keeping the valve from closing all the way.

If the valve opens and close smoothly but want close all the way I would suggest filling your other gray tank. Then closing the outer valve and open the one that is giving problems. Then use the full gray tank water to try and back flush anything that may have got in the valve that is giving you trouble.

Our gray tank valve ceased functioning when the outer cable pulled loose from the crimp connection at the handle end. It cannot be recrimped and needed replacement. But to do so required removal of the black tank to get access to the gray tank valve. Left it alone and simply use the extra valve added to the common outlet. Bad design, Redwood.

I never would have suspected that.

NW Snowbirds, I had that same problem on our '12 RL. I was able to push it back together with some JB Weld and it was still holding when we traded.

Well... got it fixed and after pulling the belly down after removing the spare tire and holder along with the gate valve and it was a tiny 1/4" or a bit smaller stone. Not sure how this would ever get in there but it was stuck in the grove the valve slid in. Also made adjustments to the grey and galley valves as they always leaked. I had installed another valve at the end of the dump pipe to eliminate them so was not a problem anymore but the cause was the cable housing needed to be cut 3/8" shorter to allow for more travel on the valve.

All is good now.
