We have now been in our GK a little over 4 weeks. There doesn't seem to be a different setting for the freezer and the fridge. If I keep my ice cream frozen, then my salad and fruit freeze and my soda are slushy. Don't mind the slushy soda, but frozen lettuce is not good and neither is watermelon! Is there a way to get the freezer to keep my ice cream solid and still have the fridge just keep things nice and cold and not frozen?????

I don't think there is a way to adjust separate. We keep ours set on 6 and that seems just right. It makes ice cubes and keeps them frozen and things in the refrige are fine. We have cantaloupe in there now and it is fine. We are in Florida with heat and humidity also.
Sorry to hear about your problem hope you get it worked out.
We love our GK.

The best you can do is find a happy medium. We run our fridge on 5, much higher and things in the fridge start to freeze. At 5 ice cream will be firm but not rock solid, the best we've been able to come up with.

I agree. We had the same problem (freezing lettuce, etc), lowered the setting and now have soft ice cream (but ice cubes and frozen meat, veggies, etc are fine). Someone somewhere suggested keeping ice cream in the lower left corner of the freezer as that's the coldest spot. Haven't checked it out with a thermometer yet, but it doesn't make a huge difference in ours

wish we had that problem right now. we can't get ours below 36 for the last week or so. tried electric and propane. set on 5 it only goes to 36, I guess because of the heat,

The constant digits on our Dometic Display have nothing to do with the temperature in the freezer... they represent the temperature of the fresh food section. See page 7 of the users manual for the Frig. Edited by: Adamsvr

Our's seems to equalize if you don't get in it for a day or two (lettuce freeze, etc.), but if we open it a lot, it seems OK. I've gotten in the habit of setting it to 5 if we are leaving, and 6 when I get back. We really haven't used it enough to tell if that helps or not.

We have the Norcold 12 ft3 with ice maker. When we load the fridge we start at #7 to cool everything, then reduce to #6. For the freezer compartments we put meat in the left side and breads, etc in the right. We find the right freezer is not as cold as the left side.

On a cool days we reduce the fridge to #5 or the contents start to freeze. Even at this setting the ice remains frozen.

WOW. We have been running between 8 and 9. Just trying to keep the ice cream frozen. Ice cream in this family is like beer in others!!

I will move the ice cream to the left and drop the temp down to 7 and see if that works.

Willing to try anything. Need to keep my lettuce fresh too.

Check the freezer seal, you may be loosing cold out of an ill fitting door. Or a seal that is not working. Put a piece of paper in the door and close it, there should be some resistance when you remove the paper, if not the seal is bad and call your dealer

We've been running between 7 and 8, with familiar symptoms. Ice cream is not hard, lettuce (on 2nd shelf) is frozen, takes 2+ days to defrost fish and meat. Veggies and fresh fruit are ok, probably because they are stored lowest in the fridge. Door items are fine. Ice cream is on left side, below the ice maker. Even with a side-by-side, I can't move everything to the lowest shelves. When we get home in August, we can use a thermometer to check temps at various settings. Please, Santa, bring us separate controls for freezer and fridge!

I looked up your symptom on the Norcold site, here is what I found:

Norcold RV Refrigerator Freezing Everything (too cold in refrigerator)
Posted on 22nd Oct 2012 @ 11:52 AM

Is Your Norcold Refrigerator Freezing All of Your Food?
Don't worry, this is a simple fix! This issue can be caused by one of two parts. The most common part is the Thermistor and the other part that could cause this is your Optical Control Board.

Norcold refrigerators have a Thermistor in them which is combination thermostat/ resistor. It connects to your light fixture inside the refrigerator compartment with a 4-prong connector. Turn the temperature setting to somewhere in the middle and disconnect the Thermistor. If the refrigerator starts warming up and maintains a good level of cool, then we know that the Thermistor has failed.

If after you disconnect the Thermistor the refrigerator continues to freeze everything, you will need to replace the Optical Control Board (board in the front of the refrigerator).

Thanks for all the info. We moved the ice cream to under the ice maker and lowered the temp to 7. Seems to be much better.

Atom Ant,

Men reading manuals!!??? Come on... where's the fun in that!

Just kiddin' read all mine from cover to cover this past winter. Have not been able to use our BR yet this summer... building a new house and the BR has a seal leak on the kitchen slide next to the back wall. At the dealer now getting looked at. Wet carpet beside the fireplace and smell of mildew...

Need it back by Aug 12 so we can live in it from Aug 15 to 22. We turn over our old house on Aug 15 and hopefully get our new house on Aug 22.
