Fresh Water Tank Fills from City Water

Whenever we travel, we put just a few gallons in thefresh water tank just so we can use the lav while on the road. Once we arrive,we hock up to city water(unless we're dry camping, of course...).



After a week of camping, I'm always surprised to see that the fresh water tank has been filled to at least 2/3 full, and I have to drain this when I get home. Unfortunately I haven't attempted to monitor this every day, so I don't know if this happens in the first hour... or slowly over a series of days.



Does anyone else find they are having this problem? Is there a check valve that's missing or defective? Mystery...Edited by: 5th_Time

sounds like the checkvalve at the tank feed to the pump. It prevents city water from returning into the tank.

We actually had that happen to the point the water was coming out the overflow. Think sometimes if the city water pressure is on the high side and you don't have a regulator it will push past the check valve. One solution is to reach inside the belly of the beast and turn the valve that shuts off water from the fresh water tank (normally used during the winterization process (to draw from the winterization line instead of the tank). Just remember to open it back up before travel or you won't pump and water.

On a side note, I am so glad you reminded me once again of that valve - I forgot to use it for winterizing. I need to put sign on that basement door or I will forget again.

I have been filling my freshwater tank once I get to the RV Park. I have better pressure with my pump verses parks water presure.

I had that problem occur shortly after we got the RW. Emailed Shurflo about the problem and they said that sometimes material from installation of tank etc. will get in the check valve in the head of the pump. They sent me a new pump head, replaced it, and haven't had a problem since.
