Since Redwood does offer the "G" Rated tires as an option I don't think you'll have much luck. I personally think Thor and Redwood are doing themselves a dis-service by making the "ChinaBombs" aka "E" Rated Marathons as the standard tire. Marathons are exploding on units that weigh much less than a Redwood. We replaced the Marathons that came on our Montana within a few thousand miles with the G614s and we had one of the lighter Montanas so were we not about to order our Redwood with anything less than "G" rated tires and wheels.

the g load tires and wheels are an option on Redwood. I have traveled over 12K miles on my super E tires and wheels, the majority of which at highway speeds and have not had any issues. I do check the air pressure every week and maintain the pressure at 80lbs.

Good point John. I have the G's and it's good to know they're there - but it seems like this Marathon "paranoia" is enough to make people who don't - want to pull over and stop driving!

Redwood is a small company and needs it's margin just like every other manufacturer. They're not about to incorporate a more expensive option without increasing the MSRP - and why should they? When was the last time anyone on this forum reported a tire failure on their Redwood?I can't remember any and there are a lot of members on here... Edited by: 5th_Time

I have yet to have any issue with the E tire. I do check the tires on a regular basis and especially before I hook on. Both coach and truck are checked prior to travel.

I too check each time we go , and in two occasions I found one of the tires "lost" air. I wish I had a chance to choose G load, but I also will be very diligent with present tires. I would of "paid up" for a piece of mind.

I did lose an E rated Goodyear Marathon on my Montana. I have a tire pressure monitor and was fortunate to catch the bad tire before it blew. Don't put too many miles on them.

I replaced the tires on the Montana with G rated Goodyear G614's. However, these are 110 PSI rated tires so you will probably need different wheels! Others may have suggestions for a different replacement tire.
I changed the tires after about 15k miles. As stated in an earlier post, many of the E rated Marathon tires have had no problems. Just watch them very close.Edited by: Blenhardt

With the amount of money spent on our rig I wasn't about chance it on tires that I feel (my opinion only) that are barely marginal for the weight they're carrying. If you really look at the numbers on this forum, there is only a handfull that are regulars. If you check the member list, you'll see many, many names that have signed up but not a single post. If you frequent just about any of the other forums there is generally a post on at least one of them per week about a blowout of a Marathon, some do no damage, other suffer thousands of dollars of damage to their rig. So we didn't want to take the risk with our Montana and certainly didn't want to risk it with the Redwood. Again, these are only my thoughts and feeling, but we do put a lot of miles on per year. So you all do as you see fit, you may be some of the lucky ones.

Don't tow over 65 MPH on the E's they build up heat and break belts! I blew up three of them on the Jayco I'm trading in on my 36RL, I ordered the E's on the new one but have a set of Goodyear H's on 17.5 wheels being shipped to the dealer they are the real deal.

Having G rated tires on our 36FB, I've found the only problem with them is the 110 lbs of pressure they require for a fully loaded trailer. My little air compressor had difficulty getting them 100 lbs. I tried a truck stop and although they claimed 150 lbs, prior users had the pressure available lower than 100 lbs and the compressor evidently needed even less pressure to turn on. I'm getting a new compressor tomorrow (I hope) with a range of 125 on to 150 off.

I had to tweak my old Sears to get it high enough andthen had to put a cable tie on the relief valve as it trips just over 100 psi.

That's not a good idea have you ever seen a air tank blow up check the tank for a tag for max air pressure and if it's ok get a new higher pressure pop off safety valve. Think about what can happen if the electric switch fails and it keeps running and your not there KABOOM

I agree. That can be a bad situation. I have had the pressure controlled electric shutoff switch fail more than one compressor. That was usually on a shop compressor that has several hours on it.

It only gets used to inflate tires and I'm right there, plus the relief valve still works it just take a little more pressure before it will pop, it's not totally disabled just requires a little more pressure. Can't see buying a new compresser for the few times I need to air up tires so it only gets plugged in when I need it and if won't hold pressure any more either.

I switched over to 17.5s on my Cardinal, and will put them on my Blackwood when I pick it up. As someone stated we spend a lot of money on these rigs, and I personaly do not want to pay for a new paint job on my new 5erwhen the chineese gernades blow up. Had it happen twice in same day no more.....
