Dirt Devil Vac surprise

We have had our rig for a little over 6 months so I decided to check the vacuum bag on the central vac while I had my garage apart.

I was surprised to find that the bag wasn't installed! There were 3 bags, owners manual and some parts stuck inside.... and a whole bunch of dirt!!!

Boy, did I feel dumb!

Forgot to check before we hooked up, but I bet the same applies to the water filter. Dealer should do this when they check/prep the unit.

Yeah, I had found that mine didn't have either vac bag OR water filter installed awhile back. I figured it was just poor dealer prep but sounds like it's 'the norm"

A couple days into our maiden trip I pulled the ol Redwood bag of manuals out and saw the filter and wrench in there...installing the filter sure helped with the taste of the water. At least I got to see the improved filter attachment.

Caught the Dirt Devil bag at the PDI, so no mess there.

I checked ours, dealer installed a bag in the Dirt Devil, good job guys.

No filter in the housing but it is so hard to get to anyway, I took the housing out anyway and bypassed the filter while doing a little basement area housekeeping.

I use an external in line filter setup.

Our Canton Texas purchasing Dealer showed us how to install a bag, and water filter, during the PDI. He also swapped batteries with Interstate, as he said the factory ones were junk. Overall I think they did a good job on ours.

Well, now we don't feel so silly. Used our Dirt Devil about 4 times before I thought to check, and NO the bag wasn't installed! LOL! Neither was the filter, but we caught that because I had purchased a better filter cartridge that did more work. I was surprised that there was no filter in the unit, but then later found the filter cartridge shoved in with a bunch of other "stuff"

On our 38FL, the water filter is in the back of the storage compartment behind a small door.
The 38FL floor plan only has basement access on the entry door side, no access from other side, so you have to take all you stuff out of the basement area, crawl to the back of the storage area to access the little door to get to the filter.
This as one of the first things I removed and bypassed, seemed kind of dumb location to me.
We just use our cartridge water filter outside on a stand.

Holy buckets! I didn't realize that! No wonder folks want it moved. Mine is in a little door right by the street side cabinet door. I just have to reach in.

I go the chance to look at the FL the other day, and see now what the basement looks like.

It's the same on the 36FL. This was one of the notes they took and also received it from Ken's survey. Hopefully we will see a fix.

Same here, couldn't understand all the issues but now it makes sense. I've actually got three filters in there now and really have no problem changing them with the provided door.

Redwood should take after DRV and others, they have a sliding wall in the basement that easily allows access to the area behind the wall. Probably cost about $50 to change things this way.

Used industrial strength Velcro stapled to panels, once my crap is moved I can have panels down in about 30 seconds, it didn't cost $50 either.

So simple I'm embarrassed I didn't think about it. You pretty much don't need screws anyways as they are basically compression fit in there with the carpet. I have to basically "kick" mine back in place when I remove it.

I must admit, I saw a fellow RW owner(Rollie & Laurie) had it on his, so I stole the idea, either way it works great.
