Charging Question

Charging question info.
Have been putting slides in and out a few times as I am working on the RW and has been pretty cold here into the teens a few times.
I noticed two of my jacks were up so somehow they raised when the slides came in. I then went over to auto level and jacks started to move then a strange noise but figured out what that was when display said low voltage. I'm always plugged into shore power so went and got the tester and both battery and at the pump read 12 volts but as soon as I hit auto level it dropped to 6-8. Took the battery out and hooked up to charger and said 36%.
Battery is only 8 months old since the one that came with it was junk.
Am I thinking wrong that when plugged into shore power it keeps the battery charged to 100%??

Steve

Check your settings for your float charge from your convertor. Then check with voltmeter to see if it is actually charging. On shore power it should keep your battery topped off. Also bad battery would cause it

My Redwood is always plugged into shore power even when in storage. The converter has always kept the batteries fully charged. I finally had to replace both batteries this past fall after 5 years of use. I top off the water in the batteries generally once per year.

Steve,

A fully charged 12V battery should read about 12.7 volts after resting from a charge for 24 hours. Also when the charger is active it should read 13.

Thanks Guys!!!!
I know quite a bit about electrical with homes but some of the 12 volt stuff unfortunately is not my strongest point but I am learning. I will test everything tomorrow and battery is charging tonight.

Batteries can maintain a surface charge. Best way to know for sure is to load test.

Steve............I should also add to my previous comment that I have the batteries load tested once per year to ensure that they still meet their published specifications.

This past fall after 5 years of use, my original no name (Mighty Bruin) battery load tested at half of its original spec. whereas the Interstate Grp 24 RV/Marine Deep Cycle still met its original spec. I replaced both batteries with Interstate Grp 29 batteries just because they were 5 years old. I donated the original Interstate Grp 24 to my son-in-law for his fishing boat.
