Cable TV dilemma!

We are at Railside Rv park in Williams Arizona & they have recently upgraded their cable tv system to the latest/greatest digital cable & I've got the best picture ever, but no sound?? Park personal said the older tv's (mine's 3 years old, that ain't old) don't like it unless they have Dolby Digital sound card. Ours says Dolby, but no sound! Neither tv, living room or bedroom. Any ideas short of replacing the tv, which ain't happenin'! Forgot to mention we always have tv sound through the DVD for surround sound.

I would explain to him that if your tv (which is only 3 years old) is the issue than he can expect many more upset customers and I doubt that those upset customers will be willing to change their televisions out. I think they will remember and look for another RV park in the area.....................................just sayin!

I agree! They said they are going to contact their cable supplier & have the system 'dumbed' down so all will have sound. Also after scrolling through my settings menu I found the setting for Dolby Digital but it's not highlighted so apparently it's an old tv after all.

The TV might be older than your RW. Before the dealer had a chance to remove it, we saw a sticker on the tv in our 2016 38GK that said "New 2014". So it was basically 2 years old on day one.

You might go into menus and change the audio format on the TV. I think they have 4-5 options.

Already options & dolby digital wasn't highlighted so couldn't activate it.

Just a thought, I wonder if the catv supports digital audio out. If so, perhaps you can run an optical cable from the tv to the optical input on your home theater system. Set the home theater to DIN (or equivalent) and perhaps you'll have audio.

Ken, a problem with that is the newer RWs don't even have a Home Theater, just the sound bar.
But back to the problem, so strange to me, we mainly use DirecTV and have the latest and greatest Genie HD receiver and have no problem with sound with only the HDMI cable between the receiver and the LG TV.

Don't sounds bars have optical inputs? Might be worth a try!

Another not so great idea by the Redwood team, for a High End Residential Coach, it should have a quality Home Theater Surround Sound system.

I guess I looked at the soundbar as an upgrade in technology - surround sound is kind of becoming outdated. Maybe not...

I have the tv playing through the optical on the surround sound & checked both the DVD player & tv menus & neither are designed for digital audio, cheap crap. Everything is fine on the OTA so I just disconnected their fancy cable.

Not sure if you have the Toshiba, but I can't see a reason it wouldn't work on the TV itself. It does say the digital optical out doesn't always output if it is a copyrighted format, whatever that means, but it should work on the TV. I assume you just have a coax in, or does the campground give you a box?

And the old ugly question -is the antenna booster OFF?

Yea, booster off! Tried everything & I've given up. Talked to a few others here & some tv's work, others don't. Seems like there's something in their cable programming that works on some & not others. The park personnel said they purchased new identical tvs & 1 worked & the other didn't?? We leave here Thurs. so I'm through worrying with it.

I wonder if there's some new format out there. I bought a Digital to Analog converter to use with my Wireless Headphones and have found some digital signals work fine while some others just give a clicking sound.
I'd hate to live somewhere and use cable and have the company upgrade to some new format that killed the sound on all my TVs.

They had too many problems with the speakers being wired wrong I guess.

Lets see....5 wires = 10 ends....end#2 goes in????

Most likely you need the cable box to make it work. We have found this at a few parks lately. Our home part just converted over to fiber optics and we have to put a box on each TV to make them work correctly. The boxes are real small and fit behind the TV so it was not a problem to hook up.

I think you hit the nail on the head. The going trend is to tie you into the additional fees of renting a box. The cable company in my area just recently started that. If you have 6 TV's they would want $7 per TV. Most state parks in GA that have cable only provide a few channels anyway.

You can buy the boxes online for about 25.00 for a standard and 35.00 for the HD. I have the information back at the Trailer and will see if I can post it later today.
