Batteries, what size????

The batteries that came with our new rig are toast!!!!
Going to purchase new deep cycle RV/Marine batteries, but do not know what size is needed, since the 2 that are in there have no markings on them at all.

They're either group 27 or 29 batteries

Ours were junk and unmarked also. Redwood covered the replacement!

Best batteries found

We changed our batteries a month after we took delivery.

Nothing wrong with the old ones except the location.

Impossible to check the water level so we went with maintenance free (AGM) so no more checking water levels anymore.

Can recommend Optima Blue Top Marine Battery. Strangely enough the D31M fits perfect since this producer makes the outside slightly smaller.

Used Optima in out previous RV as well three years ago and their warranty (then at least) actually worked. Think Optima was bought by Interstate recently but not sure.

We bought them at Blains Farm & Fleet 06JUN14 (416378) and they pricematched Amazon at $206.99/ each plus local tax.

Two 6 volt batteries. We're fulltime so the batteries are being recharged virtually all the time, either by shore power or the truck.

When we change out the batteries, currently planned prior to Alaska, we will get 4 - 6V, which will be hooked up to the solar system.

We had dealer put in 2 Sears Diehard Platinum Marine Group 31 upon delivery. They even had battery boxes on hand to hold them (no extra charge).

Our 2013 36 RL batteries are dead after being stored for 1 1/2 weeks. Everything was turned off! Anyone know why thus would happen? Thanks fir your help!

John - unless Redwood or a dealer has rewired the batteries, even with everything off and the main switch in the off position you still have a draw.

When at the service centre they rewired our coach and Jay's coach so the main switch now isolates the batteries.

Had to have ours rewired also.

Ours came with 1 12v. We added a second 12v in parallel.

So if "all" switches are in the "off" position then where is the draw coming from? There should be no current flow. There has to be a leak somewhere. Correct?

Very true for every other rv I have ever owned...
but redwood decided they thought they knew better than any other engineer and left some things hot all the time, thus our batteries go dead...

the storage area we are in has about 90 covered spots and no one I've talked to there has a problem with the batteries going dead except me and RollsRoyce (the two redwood owners in there )

Obviously a design flaw! Why hasn't this been addressed? Nobody mentioned it at the Rally and surely there were some part time people there. We had not had ours unplugged to that point, so we didn't know to say anything. What's the remedy if you keep your RW in unplugged storage. We've tried to find covered/plugged in storage around Indianapolis with no success!

This has been discussed in the past and thanks to Rick, the company has found a solution. I don't know who changed what....but on my trailer (early 2012) I can leave it for 2-3 weeks at a time unplugged with the switch off and not have dead batteries.

I believe there was some mention at the rally when we were all asking Andy question.

Ours was only left a week and two days and it was dead. Ours is 2013 RW. So if yours is a 2012 why does the 2013 go dead in half the time if it was fixed?

So there is no question that the factory wiring through the battery cut off switch does not cut everything off, FULL STOP. This is easily demonstrated by placing the the switch in the off position and turning the outside forward cab lights on or pulling the emergency break cable from the hitch FULL STOP. Both require battery power and both operate normally with the switch in the off position FULL STOP.

That all said, who knows what else is still energized with the switch in the off position.

Service fixed that for me by directly wiring the switch to the positive side of the batteries before it is connected to the DC distribution block. When it is off, the batteries are now 100% disconnected from the coach including the breaks and landing gear.

Now about the quantity and quality of the batteries supplied by the factory, I can only say this; I got 1, total trash flood acid battery installed in a spot that really is not manageable and can't even power the DC+LP Norcold Fridge for a long weekend. I've already tried to double up the house battery hoping it would help and now I just have 2 P.O.S. batteries still completely useless. I'll live with them until I provision for Alaska and then will swap them out for something more useful but I'm sure at a price.
