Yes I have to winterize, used to do it twice per year (late October and late March) as we live in the north and we hit freezing temps before leaving for the south and freezing temps when we return in the spring. Now I get away with just once as I spend some $$ on propane heating the RW in the fall before leaving instead of winterizing.

I have a portable water softener that I'm able to pretty much empty of water, it stays in the basement of the RV when we are on the move or in our basement at home during the cold season, I don't winterize it. I don't use it in the north on our way south until Kentucky or farther south so I don't expose it to freezing temps.

I think once the core is showing, it's toast.
