Redwood Owners Club

This subject has popped up periodically over the few years that Redwood has been around and each time there has been an enthusiastic spurt of people voicing interest...but then the fever subsides and the subject goes dormant. If you haven't seen any of the posts, here is the original thread, http://www.redwoodowners.com/forums/...highlight=club

I wonder if this is a subject we might want to explore while many of us are together at the Rally, is there interest, is there a need, is there support from Redwood?

Heartland has an owners club http://heartlandowners.org/content.p...rs-club-portal, seems to be very structured, looking through the club structure, it is structured with both corporate and owner leadership, an interesting structure, perhaps something to explore.

Not saying a Redwood Club would need to be structured the same but it is certainly a possibility. Or it could have little or no corporate involvement?

I, as have other owners in the past, would be willing to explore formalizing an owners club if there is a sincere desire to do so, so what are your thoughts???

I know we would be ecstatic about this. We are already saving the $$$ for our next <hopefully> Redwood, and would love to be involved in it's growth as a brand. Progressive manufacturers have learned they DO gain R&D muscle <research and development!> by the input from owners, nobody knows the strengths and weaknesses of their design better than those who are using them as intended. Count us IN on an owner's club.

I think this forum is wonderful and a club for owners would be even better. We have not picked up our Redwood yet, but hope to do that this weekend. I am somewhat apprehensive as I read some of the posts. We thought we were getting one of the best RV's that are made. Some of the posts on here about difficulties in getting repairs done makes me wonder. I hope we do not face problems with the toilet and slides that have been voiced on the forum. What about warranties? Does Good Sam or another company provide good service for repairs and replacements? Thank you!

We have had good luck with our 2012 Redwood. One thing I have learned over the years is you are more apt to hear the bad than the good on a forum or rating. It is just human nature. People will tell you about a bad experience before they will tell you about a good one. Every product will have problems, whether a new rv, vehicle, computer, tool etc. A person has to by objective and use their best judgement. As to the extended warranties like Good Sam, etc I won't waste my money on them. I have bought the extended warranties a few times before, (Good Sam was one of them) and come to the conclusion as a general rule you are better off putting the money aside and use that to fix whatever goes wrong. It's kind of a gamble. They are betting you won't need it and you are betting you will, and they are the house like a casino and come out ahead.

If you are expecting perfection, you may be disappointed. I believe Redwood is one of the best out there, but these are still RVs and there can still be issues.

I'm with Roger on the extended warranty - I prefer a factory warranty and the 2+5 was perfect when we started looking. The only extended warranty I may consider will be the fridge because of the high dollar cost to replace, and now I'm thinking the convection oven given the fact they are failing faster than I'm getting a chance to use it, and I think it was only $20.

Can someone explain the 2+5 because the unit we are buying is a year old Redwood and it was sold as is from a dealer in Elkhart IN. Is the 2+5 for a first owner only?

Yes, the 2+5 is only for the original owner. You are limited to what the Dealer is offering, or an aftermarket warranty.

I'm not where I can look at the warranty for sure, but from I remember, the 2 year basically covers everything, the 5 year covers the structure. For the 5 year you have to have it inspected yearly within 30 days of the purchase date. However, I do believe it is good only for the 1st. purchaser. I would be wondering why the as is.

The reason I dropped the ball on the club was because nobody could ever agree on the need or expense of it. I believe in order to do the club there would be some small expenses involved. Colonel John had already agreed to be the first acting president.

Yeah, John and I talked about it last year, I think he is still interested and if there is enough interest I would be willing to help.

I think an owners club would be great! Tiffin Motorhomes does it and they have different chapters that put you in contact with members in your region. Tiffin usually helps sponsor small rally's in each area. Would be in for an owners club for sure!

My comment is not to be taken as pessimism, but please tell me the "value" of a club. We have two great forums and an annual rally, which unfortunately, we will not be able to attend this summer. It's certainly possible to have more frequent rallies, in different parts of the country, but I'm assuming all of that can be communicated through the forums. What am I missing?

It is in Shipshewana, In. South campground. Date is Aug. 8,9, and 10th.

A club could bring some structured organization to the member group. It could possible assist with the rally by having Redwood put on seminars that are of the most interest to the members. Getting the best ideas from the members to the company. Possibly to get the important information to the members, and provide a media for some social get togethers. The forum is a good method to communicate, but not everyone has the time or chance to read every post, and some of them become more chat than info.
