Winter RV camping

We have just became full timers and are looking to go from Colorado to Texas or Arizona for winter. Any suggestions?

What kind of climate do you like they are both different, Texas in the valley is humid and warm most of the time Arizona is dry cool in southern parts.

We are just tired of shoveling snow and the cold. Even though it is a dry cold in Colorado it is still cold. We love the hill country in Texas but we have been reading a lot about Mesa Arizona also. We will eventually experience both areas.

My wife and I try to go somewhere different every year but we found that we really like Gulf Shores Alabama we were there last year and liked it so much that we are going back this year. So it does pay to camp around.

We live in SE New Mexico. Dry like Arizona but not quite as hot. Carlsbad is a small community that is trying to attract the snowbird population.

How is the weather there during the winter months?



I have thought about the possibility of staying in the Albuquerque, NM area in the winter.

Winters are mild, but there can be some pretty cold nights, being in the dry desert, it cools quickly at night. Albuquerque is farther north and higher in elevation. Still not too bad but more snow than we have. We usually only have maybe an inch for typical years, but we did get 8 inches in one night this winter.
The first week of May, Carlsbad is have a retirement celebration. You may want to contact the chamber of commerce for more info.

We haven't been in the Carlsbad area since June of 1988.The temperaturewas over 100 during the days. We were staying in a pop-up camper at the time. We spent the afternoon in the caverns and then went to the local Pizza Hut for the evening until it cooled down some.

Just made our winter reservations. We will be in Fredericksbueg TX for November and December and Kerrville, TX for January, February, and the first 2 weeks in March. If anyone is planning on being down that way in those months we would love to get together with other Redwood wonders and share ideas.

Rooksfive, We are at Lake Waco as volunteers and will be here when you get to Frederickburg. We can plan on getting together for a visit - don't need much of excuse to go to Fred town.

We plan to be in Hondo and Pecos next winter. There are Escapees parks in both places. Escapee member rates are $15/day plus electric.
Hondo is about 90 minutes south of Fredricksburg.

We will be in Eloy, Arizona from Nov 1st thru the end of April. It is a little south of Casa Grande. We are retiring the end of August and this will be our first year wintering in Arizona as snowbirds. If anyone is in the area, we would love to meet you and get together.
