Towing the 5th on the Garden State Thruway?

Any Eastcoasters tow south using Tappan Zee/Garden State instead of I-95? Adds a little time but you make it up avoiding the George Washington Bridge traffic. Lots of conflicting info on SOB forums. I've driven it several times before but not towing...

I have towed on the Southern part, south of the AC Expressway. That is the only direct way to some of the shore points, and there are no signs stating it's not allowed in that portion . .
