Purchasing Used 2017 3901WB

Hello all,

My wife and I are purchasing a new to us 2017 3701 WB. We do the walk through this Saturday. I think the unit is a hybrid year model manufactured in October 2017. It has 17.5" H rated tires and 8K axles with the airbag between the axle hangers, flex-air hitch, no outside TV door or rear storage, but the small wine fridge (good thing! ha ha). It also has the new maroon full body paint scheme. The whole home water filter is behind the wall in the storage area and not the convenience center. With all that being said, it has traits of the 2016 and 2018 year models from what I can tell. I am having the Westlake tires on it replaced as they already show some cracking near the tread on the sidewalls. Any other things I might watch for? Any help is appreciated!

congrads on the new addition to the family! I am sure you will enjoy it ! the air trunnion is made by LCI and it was most likely added by the owner , 8 K axels became standard some time after 2016. Sailun tires are very fair priced and seam to last , never hear of blow outs. Simple tire dot com .

I purchased mine (factory ordered) in June ‘17 and it’s considered an ‘18 year model. Yours should be an ‘18 also. Check to see if it has an electrical management system (EMS), sometimes refered to as a surge suppressor. If not, you should consider installing one prior to your next trip. They are easy to install, if you’re handy. The most difficult part is handling the #6 wire.

An EMS or electrical management system is nothing like a surge suppressor. The EMS sheds loads so that 3 A/C units can run at the same time and other set ups. Surge suppressor is designed to suppress surges and spikes in the incoming 110 volt alternating current.

The Progressive model is a seperate surge protector/ems as well as the ems built into the rv to manage loads. Unless the previous owner installed the surge protector/ems it will not have one from the factory. I have the portable & have used on 3 5ers so far. I would highly recommend either the portable or hardwired to every rv owner, too many electronics onboard these newer rvs.

Here's Progressives link. Hardwired or portable will run $300+/-, can be ordered on line or at most rv supply stores. Personally I have the portable due to being able to use on 3 different rvs we've owned, but it's heavy & awkward on some sites. Hardwired is more work to install, but then it's always there plus can have a remote monitor to mount inside.

Thank you. Also it appears to plug into the land power then you plug into it, is that how it works if on the go? If stationary there is a way to wire in permanently? Thanks again

You can get a "hardwired" version, EMS-HW50C. It is currently listed on Amazon for $298.95. That's the one I have. Here is a youtube video I found some time ago:

There are lots of other youtube videos for installation. Happy searching!

Yes the portable plugs directly into the pedestal then plug your cord into it & the rv.
The hardwired is added to the electrical circuitry of the rv & you do nothing but plug your cord into the pedestal.
With either once you turn the breaker on at the pedestal there will approximately a 2 minute delay for the rv to power up while the unit checks things out.

From what I understand, most of the portable surge protectors are not serviceable. However most of the better installed interior ones have a lifetime warranty. Meaning if they take the hit, they will either be repaired or replaced if it is not repairable.

i looked inside a old one the diodes pops and it has to be serviced or replaced ,

one of the progressive units had a two or thee pole contactor set in their, like in a home ac unit, either brand buy it so u can monitor power input

the plug in pedestal one is very convienent , ans simple put will save your electronics from a voltage spike or short. worth every penny buy it so u dont worry lightning and bad park wiring will tell of voltage anomalys

i learned the hard way ,$$$$$$$ expensive repairs, never again
