Prices have fallen - I priced out a new 2014 36RL loaded the same way I loaded my 2013 the other day. The MSRP was almost $10k less. Again that was just strictly comparing MSRP's per the build sheets.Wonder how this will impact the 2011, 2012, and 2013 rigs out there on trade in's and ACV's?

I don't think it will have any impact. Bottom line you are buying it for the same price if you are doing the homework. The MSRP was reduced but so was the discount at the dealer.

My personal opinion is that they took some of the fluff out of the high prices to make room for the higher end Carriage.Edited by: atom ant

We want to order a 2014 but if the #8000 axles are not available, we will not order. Plan to go to Alaska, trust me, those axles are a must. We are full timers too.I would like to know when the Carriage Resort Vehicles web site will be up and running...any idea? We are thinking of using one as a Park Model.

The Carriage is suppose to be introduced in September of 2013 (2 months). This is according to press releases.

This Carriage Resort unit will have an 18,000 pound GVW. No one knows whether this will have dual wheels (4 wheels per axle) in a tandem axle or triple axle single wheel (2 wheels per axle).

I'm just as anxious as you.

My understanding from our dealer is that they are still having engineering issues with the new carriage design. They are trying to put a carriage on the Red Wood frame and that is the issue. The carriages were a wider unit weighed more. I don't think you will see them any time soon. Our dealer was invited to the Red Wood factory to have some input into the design and layouts.

Redwood put the axles on without restrictions, you shouldn't have to modify anything, if something happens it's on them.

I heard the MSRP is going down but the options going up and some will no longer be offered on the Redwood. Like the 8000K axles. Have to buy a Carriage to get some of the upgrades. This info from our dealer per his rep.

I have a MSRP sheet dated 5/2/13 andÂ*it shows 38GK as $85,805. Comparing to past sheet I had, all options show around a 20% drop in price. Dealer said 8K axles still a option as of this past Wed. Will find out more this week as we are going to try an place a order if we can get the price right.
Yes, I just worked an order today for the 38gk and the base price is 85,805.

We finally went to a dealer and asked about the #8,000 axles. They are still available, but I don't know how much longer. He has yet to get back with us with a quote, must not be hungry enough, I guess. Maybe I will call our guy in Gladstone, Oregon and see what he has to say. Not in our neck of the woods, but he wants our business. If you notice on the website, they have added a new floor plan, a bunk house fifth wheel. I want a 38 GK but the husband won't haul a 41' 11" rig.

You may want to go and measure all of the Redwoods you are considering. My 36RL is 40' 5" from ladder to nose cap/kingpin. Believe me, I found out the hard way as the inside of my garage I used to store my previous Montana is exactly 40'2" from wall to overhead door. I never measured the Redwood before placing an order as I believed the dealer/brochure. Guess what....I am 3"+/- short on the garage now. I suspect you would not even notice 1 additional foot in length on the road. Just my opinion....

And from what many say out on the forums, longer is easier to tow !
especially when backing up ....Something about longer radius of turns ?

Not sure but maybe early Sept we'll find out for sure :-) Edited by: johnboytoo

Don't know how much experience he has towing RV's/trailers, but he may want to talk to those that have towed the big rigs.

This is our very first truck and RV, with previous driving experience being small fuel misers or high performance sports cars - nothing large. Yes, picking up a 40' + coach was daunting.

In BC we must pass a driving test and require a licenced driver with you until you pass the test. I got driving lessons and the first place he took me was a Costco parking lot on a Saturday. Having survived Costco I figure I can survive almost anywhere.

We only have a 36FL, but with bikes we are over 41'. I'm not concerned with the length, but weight is a different story. These are heavy and I still find it challenging on long steep down grades.

By the way, we have been towing RV's for over 20 years. Our current RV is 36' long. DeeJay

We went from a 34' Montana to our 40' plus 36RL and have no problems, just have to remember to swing a little wider on those turns. And yes, backing it up is easier than the Montana.

These trailers pull GREAT! I've had mine in snow storms with 30 mile an hour winds in near white out conditions without an issue. Don't get in a big hurry until you've had some time to adjust to the size. As for the weight, they really aren't that bad. They do have heavy pin weights but that's why they follow so well. After a few weeks, you'll relax and have fun.

It gets a lot easier if you have more truck (dually).

I don't know if it is an illusion from the paint or what, but this Redwood seems smaller than my Montana, even though I know it's not. I feel much more confident maneuvering it around.

Like Dave said, with the Dually, you feel like you're winning the fight for a change.

For what it's worth, I truly feel that my rig is the perfect combination. It's always a challenge to find the truck and trailer combination that works well together. Most problems you read about (ride and fatigue) are cause by not having the right balance between the truck and trailer. Once this puzzle is solved, traveling gets a lot less stressful.

My wife made the comment last night, That the F450 just chugs along the same with or without the Redwood, makes no difference. Named it "Hoss" and the RV, "The Redwood". I bought Hoss first because we were looking at a New Horizon as well and was covered weight wise no matter what RV I bought. I made the right choose.
