Is that Cloth furniture in the new 2016?

While checking out the new and used Redwoods on RVTrader.com I looked at one of the new 2016's with the new putty interior and the furniture appears to be cloth and has a blue tint to it. Not sure I like that. I think it looks cheap! Changes, changes, changes! It also looks like the 2016's have all gone to the cable slide.

I noticed that also. I thought the furniture looked terrible. The cable slide is used by DVR also. Not sure I like the cable but have had no experience with them.

It's my understanding that most everybody is dropping the current electric slid system for the cable driven slides. I'm not too thrilled with the idea but I can only assume that they know more about building slides than I do.

Not if the Montanas are any indication. Friend with one of the new ones with cables is having nothing but problems. Scratched floors, only half of the slide coming out, tearing carpet and constant stretching. His is a 2014. All the cable systems look the same. And I agree, don't like the new look of the 16s.

The factory told me that the reason they're going to the cable driven slide is because once they're adjusted right.....they stay that way.

I will have to say though.....the high end 5th wheels like the Continental Coach, which only works with the best materials....now is going with the cable slides. If it's good enough for Continental Coach, it should be good enough for Redwood.

I have to think that when the Schwintek was new, everyone was switching to it because it was so much better than what was being used and now the same thing with the cables. The manufacturer will definitely build up his new product to get the sales even if down the road it proves less quality then the previous used system. My 2004 Hitchhiker had an electric bedroom slide and I never ever had a problem with it so why did everyone switch to Schwintek? Less expensive maybe with a promise of a better system? I'm not saying the cable slide isn't superior but that is to be proven in my opinion.

We were seriously considering a custom built 5th wheel being made by either New Horizon or Continental Coach. If we were going to follow that path, I was going to see about having a 5th wheel made with all hydraulic slides. They might be heavier but I think they would be better built for the long haul.

The pusher we're looking at, use electric motors and are easy to remove. Their theory is.... motors are a maintenance issue so lets make them easy to replace and interchange. No tools required.

That's similar to my prior Hitchhiker. The motor was located under the bed. Lift up the bed, remove a few screws on the cover and there was the electric motor. An electric motor that could be easily purchased if necessary.

Our previous 5th wheel was a Heartland Big Horn. It had all hydraulic slide and I never had any problems with them. The storage space under the bed was only about 4 inches deep though.

With the cable unit on my RW, I have room to store the two folding chairs. So far I've only used about a third of the available space.

I think there are issues with both the Cable and Schwintek slide system.
A lot of the issues go back to the manufacturer, slide design / application and the installation of the slide systems.
My issue with the Cable System is any CG we stop at, I can take the puppy dog for a walk around the CG and I will always see at least one Cable Slide system with a drooping cable that has a tension problem.
Based on this observance, I am not sold on the Cable System yet.

Jayco towable's appears to be sticking with the Schwintek slide system on their units but now that Jayco owns Open Range they should have the inside track on the Cable slide systems since Open Range was one of the first towable manufactures to go with the Cable slide system across the board and they have been using it for years.

I looked on Redwood website and it doesn't say anything about cloth furniture but then again, the website takes awhile to catch up with production.

Well our 2016 39MB that we took delivery of last week has very similar furniture to our 2012. Now we have the Godiva/Rustic Cherry interior and the only furniture with cloth coverings are the Dinning Table Chairs.

I spoke with a technician about a year ago regarding the Schwintek motors. He had been servicing/replacing them on all types of RV's. The primary reason found was both a design problem with the motor casing and RV manufacturing process. It was found that the motor casing walls were too thin around the area of the set screw that was used to secure the motor in place (cracking the wall). This issue was exacerbated by the RV manufactures over tightening the the set screw during initial installation.

I was also told that Schwintek had made some design changes on their newer motors released this past year. I've had both my Schwintek motors replaced. They have been working fine since, but I do have to admitted I'm always on edge every time I have to bring in the bedroom slide - just hoping there are no issues.
